Week 25 of the Premier League gets underway in the best way possible when the competition’s top two sides in Manchester City and Leicester lock horns at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.
Several London derbies will be contested on the weekend and the round will draw to a close with a meeting between fierce foes Chelsea and Manchester United at Stamford Bridge early Sunday morning Australian time.

Manchester City vs Leicester City
Week 25 of the English Premier League gets underway in the best way possible when competition leaders Leicester travel to second-place Manchester City; the result determine who will be top of the league with ten weeks to play. Leicester have been nothing short of incredible this campaign; beginning the season as $5001 outsiders to lift the trophy but polished performances week in, week out have seen them to 50 competition points and a win clear of City. The Sky Blues themselves have been typically competitive but while putting clubs to the sword one week, have proven several times recently they are still capable of a shocker. City at home really should win but a draw at $4 odds is too good to look past.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Watford
A London derby will be contested when Tottenham and Watford meet at White Hart Lane early Sunday morning Australian time. Spurs’ typically good form has continued past Christmas and they now sit third overall in standings; tied with fierce rivals Arsenal but ahead on goal difference. Watford have not looked like a team amidst their first season back in England’s top flight and are all but assured another season in currently sitting ninth and realistically, still in with a chance of claiming a Europa League berth. While sure to play with plenty of spirit and determination, Spurs will probably be too great a task for the Hornets this weekend.
Aston Villa vs Norwich City
Week 25’s match between Aston Villa and Norwich City probably figures as one of the more important of the round, owing to the fact both teams are well and truly locked in the relegation dogfight. For Villa the objective is pretty simple – win to avoid relegation. The Midlands club have dropped a worrying ten points away from safety and simply cannot afford to lose any more games. The scene is a little brighter for the Canaries, though they also need to keep winning if they are to remain in the Premier League come seasons end. Norwich represent terrific value at current $3.10 odds.
Newcastle United vs West Bromwich Albion
Newcastle and West Brom are another two clubs who appear as though they will be fighting to survive right up until the final matchday of the Premier League and as a result, this fixture also carries plenty of weight. Following a couple of good results over Christmas, Newcastle have seemingly fallen out of form again; losing 2-1 to Watford a fortnight ago before being trounced 3-0 by Everton most recently. The Baggies have been unable to secure much of a consistent run of form but are seemingly doing enough to stay away from danger; entering this match off the back of two draws. Surely Newcastle are due for a return to winning form but this could realistically fall either way.
Liverpool vs Sunderland
Battlers Liverpool return to Anfield this weekend to play a Sunderland side who have once again been unable to make much of their Premier League campaign this time. For Liverpool, the arrival of former Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp saw an immediate change, but they have fallen off the spectrum once more and sit eighth overall; 16 points of Leicester’s pace. Sunderland were unlucky to take nothing from their midweek match with Manchester City and will have taken plenty of confidence from the performance; a priceless trait if they will to survive the drop. Liverpool don’t deserve to be such resounding favourites but they’ll probably win.
Swansea City vs Crystal Palace
Two teams that have fallen out of form recently are Swansea City and Crystal Palace, and the two will meet at the Liberty Stadium early Sunday morning Australian time. The Swans have more than etched themselves into the Premier League through recently seasons but have experienced something of a lean period this campaign and sit perilously close to the drop zone. Palace were challenging for a European berth at Christmas but have claimed no points since Week 18. This will probably be one of the more well-contested matches of the weekend and will offer fans plenty, but is tough to call from a betting standpoint.
Stoke City vs Everton
Tenth plays eleventh when Stoke hosts Everton at the Britannia Stadium this weekend. Stoke found great form through Christmas but have been delivered a couple of wake up calls in the form of 3-0 losses to Leicester and Manchester United over the last fortnight. Everton on the other were on the right side of a 3-0 win over Newcastle and appear to be slowly returning to top ten form. Stoke City at home are a different prospect to Stoke City away but this match has draw written all over it.
Southampton vs West Ham United
Southampton have seemingly recaptured the form which delivered them their best result in the Premier League last season and sit seventh overall after wins over West Brom and Manchester United and a gritty draw with Arsenal most recently. Wes Ham have delivered some of the league’s best defeat this campaign and have been generally good against opposition of similar form and worse, and sit sixth overall as a result. West Ham arguably offers Premier League punters the best value in win-draw-win markets at current $5.75 odds for success, but Southampton at St Marys has proven to be one of the league’s toughest road trips.
Bournemouth vs Arsenal
Bournemouth have returned to good and competitive form through recent weeks and will look to carry that condition into a meeting with crosstown rivals Arsenal this weekend. The Cherries are still capable of slipping back into the drop zone, but if they continue to rally as they have done of late they should be safe. Arsenal have slipped just slightly off the pace of Leicester and City through recent weeks but remain well in the hunt for the title this year. There is realistically only once result that can come from this match, and that is a comfortable Arsenal win.
Chelsea vs Manchester United
Week 25 of the Premier League concludes with what is sure to be a typically spiteful match between Chelsea and Manchester United at Stamford Bridge early Monday morning Australian time. To be fair, Chelsea have found far-better form since Guus Hiddink’s appointment as interim Manager but they still sit a long way off the pace in 13th position. United have returned to good and competitive form of late and enter this fixture off the back of a comfortable 3-0 win over Stoke City. Regardless of form this match is always a good one and it’s hard to look past a draw at $3.25 odds.
