2017 Boxing Day Test Preview

2017 Boxing Day Test Preview

The Urn has already been returned, but there is still plenty to play for when Australia and England do battle in the 2017 Boxing Day Test.

England got off to a flyer on the opening day of the WACA Test, but Australia dominated the rest of the Test Match and a cleansweep is well and truly on the table.

Will Australia keep alive the chances of a whitewash or will England save face with a Boxing Day Test win? We have analysed both sides and our 2017 Boxing Day Test tips can be found below.

Head To Head Betting

Australia are flying high with confidence following their big win in Perth and they are dominant $1.50 favourites to win the Boxing Day Test, while England are priced at $5 to claim their first win of the Summer.

Steve Smith and the Australian bowling attack of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon have proven to be the difference between these two sides in all three Test Matches and there are no signs of Australia slowing down.

England historically have decent record at the MCG as the conditions generally favoured swing bowling and were the most similar to their home conditions, but the MCG pitch has been flat as a tack during the Sheffield Shield season to date and very little in it for the bowlers.

This plays into the hands of the Aussies as their bowlers are capable of creating something out of nothing, while both James Anderson and Stuart Broad have shown during this Series to date that they struggle to create anything with the old ball.

Another big innings from Steve Smith looks on the cards here – as he makes a serious case for himself as the best since Donald Bradman – and it is very tough to see the Aussies failing to continue on their winning ways.

Top Australia 1st Innings Runscorer

It should come as no surprise that Steve Smith ($3.25) is a clear favourite in this betting market from David Warner ($4.33), Usman Khawaja ($5), Shaun Marsh ($6.50), Cameron Bancroft ($8) and Mitchell Marsh ($9).

Smith has been nothing short of outstanding during this Series and the English bowlers – as well as Joe Root – have simply had no answers for him.

It is tough to see how he can be troubled on a flat MCG pitch and there is still genuine value at his current price of $3.25.

Top England 1st Innings Runscorer

Joe Root ($4) remains on top of our Top England 1st Innings Runscorer from Dawid Malan ($5.50), Alastair Cook ($6), Mark Stoneman ($6), Jonny Bairstow ($6) and Moeen Ali.

It was Malan that was the star for England in Perth and Joe Root struggled, but Root is too good a player to be kept down for long.

England did their captain to step-up and there is no better time to do that than the Boxing Day Test.

Man Of The Match

Steve Smith has already claimed two Man Of The Match Awards during The Ashes to date and he is currently locked in a battle with Mitchell Starc at a quote of $6 in our Man of The Match betting market.

It is tough to see any of the bowlers standing out on a very flat MCG pitch and it is incredibly difficult to try and work out how England will be able to get Smith out.
