Calgary Flames vs Anaheim Ducks
A win for Anaheim would vault them back into an automatic playoff position and give them some breathing space over the chasing pack for a Wild Card spot as the NHL season draws to a close. The Flames are on a three game losing streak and have lost more games at home than they have won which has seen them drop to fifth in the division and they now sit two games behind Dallas for the final Wild Card spot. Their leaky defence has been their undoing and while the Ducks attack is somewhat middle of the pack, they should have the firepower to get them home here.
Richmond vs Carlton
This is shaping up as a match that will be won on emotion and the Tigers will be overflowing with that as they open the season as defending premiers for the first time in 37 years. They have been installed as big favourites but Carlton’s goal kicking woes appear set to continue into 2018 and Richmond should find a way to cover the line in a game that will have the feel of a coronation.
Melbourne Storm vs North Queensland Cowboys
We get our NRL Grand Final rematch as the kick off to Round 3 as the Storm host the Cowboys across the road from the AFL opener. The Storm comfortably won the title when these teams met last October but they won’t see too many familiar faces from that game as the Cowboys have plenty of players back in the mix. Both sides will be motivated to move on from disappointing losses last weekend and it shapes up as a close game that will likely come down to the final play and be decided by less than a converted try.
