THE top-secret details of Wednesday night’s Commonwealth Games opening ceremony have been leaked, and details show that the ceremony will be a celebration of all things Gold Coast.
In a savage blow for games organisers, the plans for the multi-million dollar show has been put into chaos.
Gold Coast 2018 organisers have threatened to revoke our media accreditation for the games,but we were able to inform them that we never applied for it in the first place.
So, what exactly will be happening this Wednesday night?
It will be a celebration of Sport on the Gold Coast
The original Brisbane Bears, Gold Coast Seagulls, Gold Coast Gladiators, Gold Coast Giants, Gold Coast Chargers, Gold Coast Cougars, Gold Coast Rollers, Gold Coast Blaze and Gold Coast United.
No city in Australia has the rich sporting heritage quite like the Gold Coast.
The GC 2018 opening ceremony’s parade of failed Gold Coast sporting franchises will be a celebration of the pioneering spirit of those people who wanted to put a team on the Gold Coast and failed as is tradition.
Players, coaches and colourful entrepreneurs involved with the teams that no longer exist will take part in a lap of honour around Carrara Stadium.
We can also reveal that Clive Palmer and former Gold Coast United players will be wearing their iconic “Freedom of speech” shirts and the original Brisbane Bears will re-enact their infamous training drill of the whole team boxing on with undisciplined player Shane Stremple.
Both the GC Suns and Titans have been invited to partake, but won’t be joining at this stage.
Local Gold Coast Bands to Perform
With organisers of the Opening Ceremony given the strict brief to keep it local, local band Operator Please who were topping the charts in the late 2000’s have been given the honour of performing on Wednesday night.
They will be performing their hit “Just a Song About Ping Pong” to celebrate the inclusion of Table Tennis into the Commonwealth Games program.
Along with this, every artist found in a Gold Coast pub or bar that performs nothing but covers of songs like Sex on Fire, Wonderwall, Summer of 69 and Mr.Brightside with an acoustic guitar will also be performing.
Meter Maids to Marshal Athletes During Parade
During the parade of nations, the famous and iconic Gold Coast meter maids will marshall the athletes to the middle of Carrara Stadium.
Meter Man Warwick Capper will also take part in order to keep up with the gender diversity of the games.
Schoolies Will take part in the Ceremony
School children taking part in opening ceremonies is nothing new but organisers have decided to include Schoolies as part of the night.
Only schoolies who are of age and with a wristband will be allowed on to the field.
At the end of their act in the opening ceremony, the schoolies will be escorted off the ground by the red frogs who will give them water and make them pancakes.
Along with the use of local Gold Coast Sporting Teams, Bands, Meter Maids and Schoolies Wednesday night’s opening ceremony will also include
- Everyone in the crowd gets a three-park superpass
- A performance from the Warner Brothers Movie World Hollywood Stunt Driver Show
- Gold Coast property developers to do a choreographed act of building a really ugly white skyscraper apartment building
- The message from the Queens Baton will be read out by Sophie Monk.
It’s also rumoured that Wednesday night will take inspiration from the Brisbane Bears opening ceremony from the first VFL game played at Carrara in 1987
In a ceremony that’s sure to be up there with the likes of Nikki Webster at Sydney 2000 and the flying tram at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games opening, Wednesday night is sure to be spectacular!
