Legendary Lands – $5 into $5,945

As if the NRL Semi Finals were not exciting enough this past weekend, one Ladbrokes punter had extra reason to celebrate with not one, but two correct score bets making up this Legendary Land. It might have been a $5 outlay but after correctly predicting the Sharks and Rabbitohs to win their matches by one point, our punter turned that into a handy return of $5,945.

Cronulla jumped out to an 18-2 lead at half time and looked like running away with Friday’s semi final before the Panthers got a try back through Nathan Cleary in the 48th minute. Valentine Holmes added a penalty goal for the Sharks to give them a 12 point cushion before the hour mark.

The next 10 minutes were all Penrith as they rallied to level the scores at 20-20. Chad Townsend missed his first drop goal attempt but made amends for that a couple of minutes later with a successful attempt that would eventually be the difference. Nathan Cleary missed his opportunities to level the game and our Legendary Land was half complete thanks to a 21-20 win for the Sharks.

Saturday night’s semi final was about as wild as can be with Adam Reynolds scoring all 13 points for Souths including a Jonny Wilkinson-esque effort of three drop goals to put the Rabbitohs by the Dragons. It started with the sides trading penalty goals before a converted Ben Hunt try gave the Dragons hopes of an upset. Another Zac Lomax penalty goal for St George preceded Reynolds scoring Souths’ only try which had the scores tied at 10 going into the final 20 minutes.

It looked like our punter’s play would get up when Reynolds scored his 11th point of the match with 11 minutes to play (how poetic) but the drama was not done yet. Lomax put the Dragons up 12-11 through a penalty goal with five minutes to play. At this point there would have surely been a few nervous thoughts, having backed a one point game here but in the other direction however Reynolds put our punter back into play with his second field goal. As time was running low Reynolds was at it again with another field goal to win the game and seal this Legendary Land of $5,945.
