Splendid Surprise had excuses when he was beaten at Hawkesbury last start and I am happy to put the pen through that performance. His debut effort before that at Randwick was excellent and if he can return to that sort of form he does have a genuine class edge over the rest of this field.
Bold And Wild did plenty wrong at Kembla Grange last start and that probably cost him the race. He does need to improve his racing manners, but there is clearly some ability there, as shown by his barrier trial win at Hawkesbury, and he doesn’t meet the strongest field this afternoon.
Sangita has only recorded the one race win during her racing career to date, but she has generally raced in stronger company than this. She does have early speed, she led the 2018 edition of the Tea Rose Stakes that was won by Miss Fabulass, and I hope to see Tim Clark ride her aggressively in the early stages of this race.
Belle De Vega is a better mare than her last start effort suggests and I am willing to give her another chance in this contest this afternoon. She has produced some high-rating performances during her career to date and she is well and truly over the odds at her current price.
