Mark Shean’s 2019 Melbourne Cup Tips

It is that time of year again and we have horses from right around the globe set to contest the 2019 Melbourne Cup.

There are few better form experts in Australian than Mark Shean and his 2019 Melbourne Cup tips can be found below.

Winner – Il Paradiso

Il Paradiso has the chance to make it three wins in a row for the Northern Hemisphere three-year-olds after Cross Counter and Rekindling won the race in the past two years. Il Paradiso has blinkers on for the first time and has won over 3200 metres in England. He ran fifth in the St Leger last start and he does have a win on soft ground.

2nd – Mer De Glace

Mer De Glace is obviously the one to beat. He has a great turn-of-foot and he is just a winner. He won a number of races in succession going into the Caulfield Cup and he was able to come from the back of the field and sweep around them. He is a query at the 3200 metres, but only has 56 kilos to carry and is only up slightly on his Caulfield Cup weight.

3rd – Finche

Finche brings better form into the Melbourne Cup this year than he did last year when he finished fourth behind Cross Counter. His win in the Kingston Town Stakes in Sydney was excellent and he lost no admirers with his efforts in the Turnbull Stakes and the Caulfield Cup.

4th – Vow And Declare

Vow And Declare won the Tattersall’s Cup over 3000 metres during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival and he ran nicely when second behind Mer De Glace in the Caulfield Cup. He is a little bit of a query on the soft ground and that is the only problem I’ve got with him. He has only had two starts back from a spell and he should be peaking on Tuesday over 3200 metres.
