2019 Vo Rogue Plate Day Preview

Race 1 - 12:08pm

Magic Millions Insurance Handicap (1800m)

This is a tricky way to start the day for punters and it is tough to bet with any real confidence. Slow Hands is a non-winner, but this might be the right race for him. He has been racing well without winning this campaign and he maps to get a lovely run in transit with Mark Du Plessis in the saddle. The current price appeals.

Race 2 - 12:47pm

TAB Benchmark Handicap (1500m)

Scratchings will dictate this race. If Eleven Eleven contests this race instead of the Vo Rogue Plate he will be extremely tough to beat, but I am not sure that will be the case. Until we get some more clarity, I will be staying out of this race from a betting perspective.

Race 3 - 1:27pm

Magic Millions QTIS Ratings Band Handicap (1200m)

Pennino doesn’t win out of turn, but this is the weakest race that she has contested in some time. She has run well in the Swiss Ace, George Moore Stakes and The Gateway and this is a genuine drop in quality. The Easy Rocking mare doesn’t have to get as far back as she did last start and she appeals at the current price.

1 Unit Pennino

Race 4 - 2:07pm

Magic Millions Shoot Out (2200m)

Barry Baldwin has The Candy Man absolutely flying this campaign and there is no reason that he can’t continue his winning ways. He was nothing short of dominant in the Hamilton Hotel Quality and this race isn’t that much tougher. The step-up in trip will not be an issue and he will get a lovely run in transit with Brad Stewart in the saddle.

4 Units The Candy Man

Race 5 - 2:47pm

Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1400m)

It is impossible to go past Alligator Blood in the Vo Rogue Plate. He has recorded six wins from his seven race starts and his only defeat came by the smallest of margins in the Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas. His return to the races in the Gold Edition Plate was outstanding and he will only be better over the 1400 metres of the Vo Rogue Plate. The All Too Hard gelding is a star and he will go into the Magic Millions Guineas as clear favourite.
The only real danger is Diamond Thunder. He has recorded five wins from his seven race starts and he overcame trouble to get the job done in the Wyong Magic Millions Stakes. The Dawn Approach gelding has serious upside and it would shock to see him miss the placings.

Race 6 - 3:27pm

Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m)

This is a stellar edition of the BJ McLachlan Stakes. There is plenty of hype surrounding Blondeau, but I am keen to take him on and the $3.50 available for an Every Rose victory is over the odds. Her win on debut in the Gimcrack Stakes was outstanding and she did have her excuses when she was beaten in the Wyong Magic Millions Classic. Josh Parr can take her straight to the front in the early stages and she will give her rivals something to catch.
Amish Boy is a colt with upside. He ran the fastest closing sectionals in the race in the Magic Millions Clockwise Classic at Ballarat and the step-up to 1200 metres does look ideal for him. The Star Witness juvenile is a professional type and it would not surprise to see him factor in the finish.

Race 7 - 4:07pm

Listed Bernborough Handicap (1600m)

This is an excellent edition of the Bernborough Handicap. Sambro returned to a semblance of his best form to finish third behind Quackerjack in the Villiers Stakes and he should now be at peak fitness for this contest. This is a genuine drop in quality and, with even luck in running, he will prove tough to beat.

1.5 Units Sambro

Race 8 - 4:47pm

The Buffering (1400m)

The Buffering is one of the most open betting races of the day and there are a stack of winning chances in this field. James Cummings looks to have found a lovely race for Gaulois. He finished his Winter campaign with a nice win in the Rowley Mile and a repeat of that effort would make him tough to beat in this contest. His barrier trial ahead of his return to the races was excellent, while barrier five is ideal with Damien Oliver in the saddle.

2 Units Gaulois

Race 9 - 5:30pm

Nudgee Stakes (1200m)

Invincibella is well and truly over the odds at her current price of $11. She won both the Dane Ripper Stakes and the Tatt’s Tiara during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival and she raced well without a huge amount of luck during the Spring Racing Carnival. Barrier 15 isn’t ideal and she will need some luck in running, but she does run well fresh and her trial at Rosehill Gardens ahead of her racing return was excellent.
