NRL Round 2 Betting Summary
It was very much a round for the punters in the second week
of the 2020 NRL season.
Six of the eight favourites were winners and the Manly Sea
Eagles won as an outsider but were one of the best-backed sides of the weekend.
The Panthers were backed from $1.80 into $1.55 and ensured
that punters started the round strongly, while a Newcastle Knights/Parramatta
Eels Sunday afternoon multi at $2.50 was an extremely popular betting play.
There was only one result that went the way of the book in
round two and that was the Brisbane Broncos beating the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
The Broncos drifted all week long and ended up starting at
$2.40 after $1.80 was available earlier in the week.
For the second week in a row they were able to get the job
done as underdogs and have, surprisingly, been the bookies best friend this
season to date.
FIRST TRY FILL UP
Tom Trbojevic is always very popular with punters and that
was the case again this weekend.
The $14 available for him to score the first try in the Sea
Eagles’ clash with the Sydney Roosters always looked like value and plenty of
punters were able to take advantage.
Taking on the Cronulla Sharks has proven to be a popular
betting play in the early stages of the 2020 NRL season and one Ladbrokes
punter was particularly keen on the Melbourne Storm.
This punter had $35,000 on the Storm at $1.50 and had to
endure plenty of nervous moments before a late Cameron Smith penalty goal allowed
the Storm to come away with the two points.
BACKING THE FUTURE
For the second week in a row, both the Brisbane Broncos and
the Newcastle Knights have been the big shorteners in NRL Premiership betting,
and they are now both into $15.
The Sea Eagles were also popular with futures punters
following their victory over the Roosters and they are now into $10.
The Sydney Roosters are now out to $5 following their 0-2
start to the season, but they remain premiership favourites from the Melbourne
Storm and the Canberra Raiders, who are both $6.
Roosters – $4.50 > $5
Rabbitohs – $9 > $13
Sea Eagles – $15 > $10
Broncos – $19 > $15
Knights – $19 > $15
