2019 – Sydney Stack goes BANG!

Today marks the one year anniversary of Sydney Stack’s bone-crunching bump on Melbourne’s Jack Viney.

Overlooked by all 18 clubs in the draft, Stack was picked up in the pre-season by Richmond and fast became a favourite with the Tiger Army.

Playing only his fourth game, Stack cleaned up Melbourne’s co-captain than him with an epic bump in the last quarter.

In the channel 7 broadcast, James Brayshaw called it brilliantly “BANG! Sydney Stack just sat him down.”

The Tigers won the 2019 edition of the ANZAC eve game by 43 points.

In his post-match press conference, Richmond coach Damien Hardwick could not have been more delighted with Stack’s efforts.

2015 – Naiqama’s Freakish Try Assist

The game between Canterbury and the Wests Tigers wasn’t that memorable, however, the Try assist from Kevin Naiqama most certainly was!

Naiqama’s refusal to give up on a ball that was headed dead-in-goal resulted in one of the most freakish Try assists that occurred on the Football field allowing James Tedesco to get the four points.

As for the match – Wests Tigers thrashed the Bulldogs 38-14 at ANZ Stadium.

1915 – Football Gets Underway

The 1915 VFL season got underway, just one day before the first batch of Diggers arrived on the shores of Gallipoli.

Nine clubs would partake in the upcoming Football season with University dropping out of the VFL at the end of 1914.

St.Kilda changed their traditional colours of red, white and black (which was the same as Germany at the time) to red, white and yellow.

It was also considered by the club as a symbol of solidarity with players and officials who were serving in the forces with ally Belgium.

Despite consideration for the season to be cancelled due to the advent of war, the decision was received well by the general public at the time.

As for the football, Collingwood had a solid win over the Same Olds (Essendon) by 26 points at Victoria Park.

Melbourne and Richmond fought out a close encounter at the MCG with the Fusica’s (Demons) getting the job done by nine points.

St Kilda opened their season style winning the Lakeside Premiership against the Bloods (South Melbourne) with a 27 point win at the Junction Oval.

The game of the round was at Princes Park where Carlton and Fitzroy played out a thrilling draw, Carlton 5-11 (41) defeating Fitzroy 6-5 (41)

Geelong had the bye.
