2020 Lord Mayor’s Cup Day Preview

Racing returns to Rosehill Gardens this Saturday and we have a meeting that is full of interesting betting races.

We have analysed every single race on the card and our complete 2020 Lord Mayor’s Cup Day tips can be found below.

Darley 2YO Handicap (1100m) - Race 1 11:30am

Anders will take winning form into the first at Rosehill on Saturday and can make it two in a row.

The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained gelding stamped himself as one to watch during his debut prep, but has clearly returned to the track a better horse this campaign and he finished second behind the talented Peltzer when resuming, before breaking his maiden last time out.

This is a little harder, but he harbours further improvement and can continue his rise through the grades.

Highway Class 2 Plate (1400m) - Race 2 12:05pm

Ready To Humble has been excellent back from a spell and this week’s Highway race looks a lovely target for him.

The Rubick gelding gave his rivals windburn when resuming at Grafton and franked that performance with another dominant display at Port Macquarie.

He then stepped out in a 1200m Highway race at Randwick three weeks ago and was beaten only by the talented Tejori, beating home a stack of other classy horses including Hellenism.

Fitter fourth-up and getting out in trip, he’s primed to win again.

Magna Grecia @ Coolmore Australia Handicap (1200m) - Race 3 12:40pm

This looms as one of the more open contests on the Lord Mayor’s Cup Day card and a horse like Mo’s Crown has definite each-way claims.

The Uncle Mo gelding has returned some pleasing performances for the Coyle stable this time in, recording a lovely win at Newcastle three back before finishing three lengths fifth in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas.

He was then tasked with facing Masked Crusader here a few weeks ago and again finished fifth.

He looks to be at peak fitness for this contest and gets the services of James McDonald, launching from a good gate.

Schweppes Handicap (1500m) - Race 4 1:15pm

Sure Knee needed the run when she finished towards the tail of the field in the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic when resuming, but this is a big drop in class from that race and she’ll enjoy improvement.

The Snitzel mare was a good horse for Chris Waller last time in and found form around some good horses, winning the Mares’ race on Cup Day most notably.

She’s another runner with the bonus of McDonald in the saddle on Saturday and she is certainly up to winning something of this quality.

- Race 5 1:55pm

Fituese is a star on the rise and she can record another win in the BM88 sprint.

The John Thompson-trained mare has so far recorded five wins from her seven career starts, including both this time in, in utterly dominant fashion.

This is something of a drop in class from the Listed race that she won last time out and she’s drawn to receive all the favours from barrier 6.

Long May We Play Handicap (1400m) - Race 6 2:30pm

Miss Einstein only just missed when second over 1500m at Randwick last week and gets another chance in this slightly shorter contest on Saturday.

The four-year-old daughter of Dundeel has continued to improve with each of her three starts back from a spell, but hasn’t really run a bad race in her nine-start career.

She’s also drawn ideally on the inside of this field and I can’t find a reason why she won’t be in the finish again.

Listed Lord Mayor's Cup (2000m) - Race 7 3:10pm

This is a typically open edition of the Lord Mayor’s Cup and plenty of horses have winning claims.

Dr Drill proved far too good in the Scone Cup last time out and this does look another lovely race for him.

The Dansili gelding does tend to take a few runs to get going and we went early on tipping him two back when he failed to finish off over 1400m at Randwick, but his impressive performance at Listed level a couple of weeks ago was far more enjoyable.

Getting out to the 2000m at this point of his prep is going to suit and at around the $8.50 mark, I’m more than happy to have another each-way play.

Exceedance @ Vinery Handicap (1300m) - Race 8 3:50pm

Mr Dependable was enormous when resuming last preparation and I’m hoping that he can repeat that effort and live up to his name again at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Reliable Man gelding was a two-length winner of a BM70 race here at Rosehill, progressing to another win over the likes of Rocha Clock before running third behind Dabiyr and Matowi, most notably.

Any of those performances would be good enough to see him into this finish of this.

Iron Jack Handicap (1100m) - Race 9 4:30pm

Superium beat the likes of Splintex when resuming last time in and has claims on winning the last on Lord Mayor’s Cup Day.

The Verrazano gelding has been a good horse for sprint king Joe Pride in recent seasons and has returned a couple of handy performances at the trials in the lead-up to this.

Happy to have something on him again here.
