The Mackinnon Stakes has drawn an outstanding field and our man Peter Moody has an interest in the race as a part-owner of Mr Quickie.
Can Mr Quickie win the Mackinnon Stakes at big odds?
He has analysed the entire field and his complete Mackinnon Stakes tips can be found below.
Winner – Arcadia Queen
Arcadia Queen was super in the Ladbrokes Cox Plate.
She is back on the big Flemington track and the firmer deck, which I think suits her.
Arcadia Queen is the quality in this field and she has really bounced back after an indifferent start to her preparation.
She is the one they need to beat.
2nd – Mr Quickie
I think we will see a more competitive performance from Mr Quickie than we did in the Kennedy Cantala.
He has gotten into a habit, when he has drawn badly, of flopping out the back and I don’t think he partakes too much when he has 14 or 15 bums in front of him.
Hopefully he steps away clean like he did in the Toorak.
At his best he can definitely mix it with these horses.
3rd – Mugatoo
Mugtaoo was absolutely enormous in the Ladbrokes Cox Plate and he has stamped himself as a genuine Group 1 performer.
He came off that handicap form in Sydney to the weight-for-age ranks in Melbourne and he could not have been tougher.
4th – Dalasan
He is probably the level below these horses at weight-for-age level, but I still think that Dalasan can be in the mix.
Dalasan never runs badly and he does seem to save his best form for Flemington.
