2014 – Tragic Death of Phil Hughes
The Cricket and sporting world in general received the horrible news that Phil Hughes had passed away at the age of 25 after being struck by a bouncer on the side of his head, below his helmet, playing a Sheffield Shield game in Sydney.
Hughes was struck after missing an attempted hook, which caused a cerebral hemorrhage.
He would be rushed to hospital from the SCG and underwent surgery but did not regain consciousness.
All Cricket in Australia would be called off that weekend and a social media hashtag #putoutyourbats trended as a mark of respect.
Phillip Hughes would remain 63* not out.
