Leading hoop Glen Boss has labeled Artorius a potential superstar and he believes the Blue Diamond Stakes winner will go to another level as a three-year-old.
Artorius stormed home in the concluding stages to win the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 20 and backed that up with a credible sixth place finish in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 27.
Boss said in the Ladbrokes Group 1 Year In Review series that Artorius clearly didn’t handle the Sydney way of going in the Golden Slipper and still has plenty of improvement left in front of him; with the champion jockey indicating that the Flying Artie colt could be the perfect horse for the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).
“Artorius I think could be anything,” Boss said.
“This horse doesn’t even know he’s a racehorse yet and he’s amazing.
“I think he’s a superstar this horse and he’s in the right barn.
“When I looked at him in the enclosure I could just see so much growth and he trialled like he was a drunk the Sydney way.
“He did the same in the Golden Slipper.
“And somehow when he managed to get balanced he was actually the red light one coming home.
“He could be in everything who knows.”
She Will Reign is the only Golden Slipper winner since Pierro in 2012 to win a race as an older horse and the form coming out of the Golden Slipper has struggled in recent years, but Boss is confident that will not be the case in 2021.
Boss expects Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside to go on with the job as a three-year-old and also has high hopes for the likes of Anamoe, Profiteer, Home Affairs and O’President.
“Last year’s race lacked any quality and the form proved it,” Boss said.
“I guarantee this race is going to throw up a lot of good horses and there are even horses that got beaten four or five lengths that I thought had potential.”
Stay Inside is currently rated a $5.50 chance in our Golden Rose Stakes betting market, while Artorius is $12 in the same race.
