The Brisbane Racing Club will host midweek metropolitan racing this Wednesday at Doomben with a seven-race card.
At time of writing the track was rated a Soft 5 with the rail out 6m the entire course. The forecast suggests a strong possibility of a storm on Tuesday before a mostly sunny day Wednesday.
Our tips for each race can be found below.
Race 1 - 2:38pm AEDT
Maiden Plate (1050 METRES)
Our Armistice (9) worked to the line strongly but was swamped late by an outside horse when finishing second by 0.4 of a length at the Sunshine Coast over 1000m.
The Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted-trained mare will have taken benefit from that run and be fitter here second-up.
There looks to be good speed in this race which should see Brodie Loy settle just off the pace from barrier 3 before making his move in the straight.
1 unit – Our Armistice (9)
Race 2 - 3:13pm AEDT
Class 4 Handicap (1640 METRES)
Ghostwriter (1) got the monkey off his back four starts back when bolting in by four-lengths at Ipswich over 1350m.
That run has given the Annabel Neasham-trained gelding confidence. He was narrowly beaten in two subsequent runs before finishing off well to win over this course and distance last start.
He rises in weight but drops back to a Class 4. Brodie Loy should settle on speed in the small field.
2 units – Ghostwriter (1)
Race 3 - 3:48pm AEDT
Class 1 Handicap (1640 METRES)
Kureder (2) settled handy before running on strongly to win over this course and distance last start.
The Chris Waller-trained three-year-old is only lightly raced so will take confidence from winning his maiden. He’ll also be at peak fitness fourth-up.
Ryan Maloney retains the ride and has a winning strike rate of 27% when teaming up with Waller. He should be able to settle in a prominent position.
2 units – Kureder (2)
Race 4 - 4:23pm AEDT
Maiden Handicap (1640 METRES)
Chayse ‘n’ The King (5) looks ready to take on the 1640m after two good runs this preparation.
The three-year-old filly from the Les Kelly stable was forced wide as they straightened for home which cost her a length but she worked home well to finish third to Iron Grace by under a length.
The way she finished off suggested she needed this longer trip. Sean Cormack can settle handy in a race with limited speed on paper.
1 unit – Chayse ‘n’ The King (5)
Race 5 - 4:58pm AEDT
Class 6 Handicap (1200 METRES)
Jakama (3) will be better over further later in his preparation but can run a bold race first-up.
The John Dann-trained six-year-old resumes here on the back of two trials that were just fair. However, he generally doesn’t set the world on fire in his trials so that’s not a concern.
He finished off strongly at Ipswich over this distance, making up many lengths to finish third when first-up last preparation. He did win his only previous race over this course and distance.
There looks to be good speed here which should allow Sam Collett to settle off them before coming with a big finish.
1 unit each way – Jakama (3)
Race 6 - 5:33pm AEDT
BENCHMARK 65 Handicap (1110 METRES)
Baldassare (9) wanted to lay in and it proved costly when finishing a half-length third at the Sunshine Coast first-up.
He then loomed as a winning chance, but his run petered out late when third over 1110m here last start.
The Rob Heathcote-trained galloper will be fitter third-up and gets a couple of gear changes (tongue tie on and pre-race ear muffs) that should help him out. He’s drawn to get a nice run for Ben Thompson.
1 unit – Baldassare (9)
Race 7 - 6:10pm AEDT
RATINGS BAND 0 - 68 Handicap (1350 METRES)
Michigan (7) was supported at a big price last start in a stronger race at Eagle Farm over 1300m. The Mark Currie-trained five-year-old worked early to find the front and as a result weakened in the run home. He boxed on reasonably well considering the circumstances.
The start prior he led at Gatton and was pressured by found plenty to win over 1400m.
He’s drawn nicely in barrier 3 which should see Justin Stanley find a nice spot just behind the leaders.
1 unit each way – Michigan (7)
