Jimmy Cassidy has won the Melbourne Cup on two occasions, with Kiwi and Might And Power, and he couldn’t be more excited about this year’s edition of the race.
The Pumper has analysed the entire field and his complete 2023 Melbourne Cup tips can be found below!
Winner – Vauban
This bloke could be something special.
There is no tougher stayer in this field, his form over the jumps in Ireland is brilliant, and he showed his quality on the flat with his win at Royal Ascot.
Willie Mullins has targeted the Melbourne Cup for six months with this horse and he just looks like an absolute beast.
It is going to take an impressive performance to keep the Melbourne Cup on Australian soil.
2nd – Without A Fight
I really liked the toughness that Without A Fight showed in the Caulfield Cup and I think he has a genuine chance to do the double.
He probably would have won the Melbourne Cup last year if the track was dry and he has gone to another level since then.
The wide barrier draw doesn’t bother me and he will get the chance to work into the race.
3rd – Soulcombe
Chris Waller has Soulcombe ticking along nicely and the Melbourne Cup has always been his grand final.
The botched start cost him in the Caulfield Cup, but I still like the way he found the line.
3200 metres will suit this bloke – we just need him to jump with the rest of them.
4th – Gold Trip
You simply can’t knock this horse.
He was gallant with the big weight in the Caulfield Cup and he was arguably a touch unlucky again in the Ladbrokes Cox Plate.
It takes a special horse to win the Melbourne Cup in back-to-back years, but Gold Trip could be exactly that!
