No. 1 Blackjack Cal

Blackjack Cal looks hard to beat in this Novice race over 520m.

The Warren Nicholls-trained son of Orson Allen was checked early but recovered to win well over this course and distance in 30.73 seconds two starts ago.

Luck wasn’t on his side last start when a similar situation occurred shortly after exiting the boxes but to his credit he fought on well to finish second.

The inside box should hopefully eliminate those problems and if he gets on the arm early, he should be too powerful for them late.

No. 6 Titanium Gunn

Titanium Gunn will appreciate the small field where he can avoid the traffic issues that have plagued him recently.

The Jeff Crawford-trained dog looked to be working into the race beautifully as they approached the home turn over this course and distance last start but he ran into the back of the leader and dropped out.

He possesses a best time of 42.02 seconds and clocked 42.06 seconds just five starts ago so if he gets clear air, he’ll be hard to beat.

No. 5 Very Handy

Very Handy is, as his name suggests, a very handy chaser.

The Tony Apap-trained dog has won six of 12 starts over this course and distance.

Last start he was cramped for room when finishing third in 30.18 seconds but he has broken 30 seconds in the past.

He has the speed to cross from box 5 and go all the way.

No. 5 Orson Apatite

Orson Apatite is looking for her fourth win in a row.

The daughter of Orson Allen has a great record over this course and distance having won three of five starts.

Two starts back she recorded a personal best time of 30.04 seconds when proving too strong from the inside box.

She can track the seven dog across before powering home.
