Bolton Sprint Day Preview 2024

Belmont will once again play host to a nine race card this Saturday.

The feature event on the program is the Listed H. G. Bolton Sprint and this year, thirteen runners will line up to contest the $125k event.

The rail will be out 4m for the entire circuit and the track is currently rated a soft 7.

We’ve had a close look at all nine events on the card and our thoughts can be found below.

QUAYCLEAN PLATE 2YO SW (1000 METRES) - Race 1 1:44pm AEST

Cleanmeup kicked off her career in fine style, saluting over this course and distance earlier this month.

A daughter of Rich Enuff, the filly was well supported after two trial wins and under the guidance of William Pike, she let down strongly in the straight to score by a neck, with the pair putting up a big gap back to the rest.

With good natural improvement and the blinkers going on for the first time, she looks hard to beat again.

Pike stays in the saddle and they get the advantage of the inside draw.

TABTOUCH - WESTSPEED PLATINUM HANDICAP NMW (1000 METRES) - Race 2 2:19pm AEST

Ultimate Command resumes.

She was only narrowly beaten when resuming last campaign and does boast a very good first up record.

Kicking off over the 1000m short course looks ideal for the daughter of Rommel and she looks ready to go off a solid 1000m trial.

Brad Parnham has a great affinity with the mare and will do the steering for his father Neville.

GLENROY CHAFF HANDICAP 3YO (1400 METRES)  - Race 3 2:56pm AEST

Doctor Jay has been the runner up at his past two outings and looks nicely placed back against his own age group.

He won well when resuming over 1200m at Pinjarra and has just wanted to race a bit keen at his past couple starts.

The War Chant gelding has put together a tidy record and the form around him is solid.

Steven Parnham has been aboard in five of his six starts and he’ll again partner him here.

MORLEY GROWERS MARKET HANDICAP RTG72+ (1000 METRES) - Race 4 3:36pm AEST

Final Siren has recorded five wins from just eight starts and looks well placed to add to that tally.

He just looked a bit flat two runs back when having his first run for the new stable but bounced back to his best last time with a determined victory.

With the inside draw here he’s set to receive all the favours and Pike stays in the saddle for Michael Lane.

MRS MAC'S HANDICAP RTG78+ (1600 METRES) - Race 5 4:14pm AEST

Starry Heights was only getting warmed up late when resuming over 1400m and he’s sure to improve here with that run under his belt.

A winner of two from three second up appearances, he looks well placed and the rise in trip will certainly suit.

The Star Turn gelding has yet to taste defeat over the mile, recording five wins from as many outings over the journey.

He’s drawn to get the right run and Pike goes onboard for Grant and Alana Williams.

1 unit – STARRY HEIGHTS

BISLEY WORKWEAR HANDICAP RTG66+ (1600 METRES) - Race 6 5:00pm AEST

Fine Touch strips fitter for the two runs back and looks ready to peak third up.

She just felt the pinch late when resuming over 1400m and last time, again over that same trip she was strong late, finishing third beaten just over a length.

Boasting a great record over the mile the Maschino mare will appreciate getting out over that bit further.

She does rise slightly in the weights but drops back in grade and will be afforded every chance from the good gate under Brad Parnham.

1 unit – FINE TOUCH

H.G. BOLTON SPRINT LISTED (1200 METRES) - Race 7 5:35pm AEST

Minsk Moment resumed off a long break with a solid effort in the Beaufine Stakes and will relish the rise to 1200m.

Having his first run since returning to the Adam Durrant stable, the I Am Invincible entire worked home nicely to finish just behind the placegetters and he will have taken plenty of improvement from the run.

He’s a class horse on his day and has drawn to get the right run for Clint Johnson – Porter.

CELEBRATING RACEHORSE OWNER TANYA JEFFREYS HANDICAP 1MW (1200 METRES) - Race 8 6:12pm AEST

Supportive kicked off her campaign with a decisive victory over 1000m and looks well placed to make it back to back wins.

After settling in the second half of the field, the mare let down powerfully over the final 100m to score by half a length.

Fitter for that run, the rise to 1200m looks ideal and she does perform well second up.

She’s got a great record over this track and trip and is set to enjoy a cosy run from gate three under Brad Parnham.

1 unit – SUPPORTIVE

ACCOLADE WINES HANDICAP RTG66+ (1300 METRES) - Race 9 6:45pm AEST

Berbere proved superior when stepping out to 1400m last start and looks hard to beat again.

A winner of four from eight, he’s working through his grades quickly and his latest win was his most impressive, as he pulled clear over the final part to post a 3.7 length margin on the line.

The slight drop back in trip won’t worry him and from the good draw he can roll forward and prove hard to catch.
