No. 2 Hooah Havana

Hooah Havana looks ready to win following a solid but unlucky effort in a stronger race at Flemington last start.

The Lindsey Smith-trained gelding was held up in the Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Final but worked home strongly once clear to finish 1.5 lengths sixth.

The start prior he stormed home over 1400m at Bendigo to finish a length second to Yellow Sam.

While he’s never raced over 1800m, the way he finds the line suggests he’ll have no issue.

No. 5 Darling Downs

Darling Downs was a strong winner when resuming over 1300m at Hawkesbury.

Unfortunately, the Ciaron Maher-trained mare was no match for Spanish Fox second-up over 1250m but ran on well for second.

Spanish Fox was low flying with five wins in a row so there was plenty of merit in her performance.

She bounced back last start when treating her rivals with contempt in a 1.8 length win over subsequent victor Concordia Wind on the Kensington track.

She should enjoy a great run.

No. 8 Changing Colours

Changing Colours (8) won over 1454m at Kyneton on debut before going for a break.

The Chris Walller-trained daughter of The Autumn Sun returned over 1300m at Bendigo where she settled near the back after drawing wide before savaging the line to finish a neck second.

Last start she recorded the quickest final 200m of the race at Ballarat but just couldn’t catch Bon Mistress who franked the form by impressively winning on VRC Oaks Day.

She’ll strip fitter third-up and the ear muffs coming off is a plus.

No. 5 Maximum Dividend

Maximum Dividend returned in magnificent order at Wyong over 1630m last start where he raced away late to easily win by 3.3 lengths.

The O’Shea & Charlton-trained gelding has taken some time but the penny looks to have dropped and he will strip fitter second-up.

The rise to 1900m looks ideal given how strong through the line he was.

Kerrin McEvoy takes the ride and can counter the wide barrier.
