Looking for the Friday form guide edge? Ladbrokes has the ANZAC Day at Randwick tips you need!
End of week punters are treated to an eight-race program in Sydney, and we have our complete Randwick-Kensington Friday racing tips and preview right here.
While plenty of eyes will fall south for Flemington’s ANZAC Day Stakes Day racing action, there are plenty of Friday winners to be found across the border.
The track is a Soft (6) at time of publish and with showers hanging around we’re unlikely to see it firm.
From an odds-on fancy in the first to a couple of value Each Way plays plus the ANZAC Day Cup tip of the day, we’ve got your Friday horse racing bets covered!
Lucy Henderson has dissected the card and provides her top Randwick ANZAC Day racing selections and Kensington best bets below.
Race 1 - 12:45PM AEST
Lone Pine Plate (1400m)
ANZAC Day racing at Randwick kicks off with a small field in the first. Just five remain in the mix and I’m happy to go with the better proven of these maidens landing on the odds-on fancy SHE REX (3).
Chad Schofield rode this nicely bred Russian Revolution filly two back last December for a third at Canterbury and is back aboard for her second-up run this prep.
The Ciaron Maher trained youngster has run four placings from four starts to date, most recently when 2.68 lengths third first-up off an on-speed run at Warwick Farm on April 2 behind Engine Room.
Handled the Soft (7) and gets similar track conditions here off that affirmative return.
Presents fitter now in a diminutive field coming into gate three with improvement expected.
2 Units – She Rex (3)
Race 2 - 1:20PM AEST
The Passchendaele Plate (1250m)
A set weights sprint for 3YO maidens in the second and love the look of one of the Waller runners, SATIN SPARKLE (2), drawn a dream in gate two with the airborne Zac Lloyd riding.
Master horseman Waller has three in this, including the better tested favourite MAORI CHIEF (6), but his daughter of Zoustar stands out for mine at an attractive double-figure quote at time of publish.
She debuted here last August when well beaten in a fillies’ maiden but that was won by the stable’s subsequent star filly, Aeliana, who beat the boys by five lengths in this year’s ATC Derby.
This filly went to the paddock and returned at Wyong on April 3 catching the eye with 56.5kg when second by a half-length to Reducio over 1200m on a Soft (5).
She’ll take huge benefit from her first-up performance in a decent race dropping weight to 55kg. A lightly raced improver who, from that lovely gate, is the value.
2 Units Each Way – Satin Sparkle (2)
Race 3 - 1:55PM AEST
The Somme Classic Handicap (1250m)
Race 3 gets us into the Handicaps, and we’ve got a solid line-up of sprinters in this BM64.
Plenty of winning hopes but the rails-drawn BROADWAY FOLLIES (1) stands out at good odds to win fourth-up for Bjorn Baker who is enjoying a ripping autumn.
Rachel King comes aboard this fast-developing daughter of Smart Missile who is putting together a good record now with two wins and three seconds from six starts.
Gets her pet distance here chasing her first win of the prep after a narrow loss to Bonjour Madame on a Soft (7) at Wyong carrying 59.5kg on April 17.
That looked a pretty strong race, and this filly will relish similar conditions carrying less weight back to 58kg.
Peaking now. Expect her to stick with the task.
1 Unit – Broadway Follies (1)
Race 4 - 2:30PM AEST
Home Front Handicap (1800m)
First of the day’s staying events, and it is a tough race with plenty of form lines to consider including from the imports overseas.
Based on the stable and the weight, have put FIFTYFIVECHEVY (1) on top from the Neasham/Archibald yard.
Like that Rachel King comes aboard this in-form son of multiple Group 1 placed grey Puissance De Lune who loved himself a Soft track.
He’s a three-time winning three-year-old who chases a hat-trick after a Canberra mile victory carting a hefty 60.5kg to a 1.46 length win in late March followed by a Newcastle success with 57.5kg over the same 1600m distance on April 12.
Made up ground from midfield last start, runs look ideally spaced, he won from inside alleys at his latest two and gets the rails draw this week.
This is a tougher test but coming back to just 54kg, I think he’ll be flying.
1 Unit – Fiftyfivechevy (1)
Race 5 - 3:05PM AEST
ANZAC Day Cup (2400m)
One of the best on the card, the ANZAC Day Cup, features some talented stayers with eyes on potential tougher targets over the coming months as the spring showdowns approach.
The favourite CAMPALDINO (4) looks tough to beat for mine with the booking of apprentice Anna Roper giving this Waterhouse/Bott top fancy a bit of weight relief.
They’re drawn to get the run of the race from the gate fourth-up and fit off three runs in the money already this campaign.
The Ghibellines gelding has had two runs at the track for dual seconds back in March in a BM72 and BM78 carrying plenty of weight, and with winning form up to 2200m think he’ll run a strong mile and a half.
A proven wet tracker, any additional rain will see him firm, and he comes in confident off a good Orange Cup win over 2100m.
Took that out by nearly two lengths with 58.5kg defeating Steel Blaze on a Good (3) proving his ability and versatility.
Improving each time out. Can go back-to-back.
2 Units – Campaldino (4)
Race 6 - 3:40PM AEST
The Kokoda Handicap (1250m)
The older sprinters do battle in the fifth and STRUFF (4) stands out second-up off a hard-fought win when well-backed fresh.
Richard Collett’s ultra-consistent daughter of Winning Rupert has a nice strike-rate at the distance (10:2-3-2), and her tenacious nose victory at Wyong on April 3 saw her cart 60kg to a narrow but convincing on-speed success.
Before the break she was also first past the post putting 1.5 lengths on Deep Finesse over 1400m on a Heavy (8) at Kembla Grange in a Class 1.
Andrew Calder continues associations from a favourable alley here as the mare chases a hat-trick and she ticks plenty of boxes to do so.
Well-placed with the winning momentum to go on with it.
1 Unit – Struff (4)
Race 7 - 4:15PM AEST
Battle Of Fromelles Handicap (1400m)
The fillies and mares face off in the meeting’s penultimate event, and I’ve gravitated towards MISS SPACEGIRL (12) who has Each Way appeal from a wide draw.
Richard & Will Freedman’s daughter of Territories has had six starts but chases just her second success after a couple of luckless runs.
Think her fortunes could change here as she presents fit fourth-up with the booking of Jason Collett a big tick.
He’s a class hoop who can get this filly to overcome the draw, and she gets the winkers on to help.
Back-to-back seconds by narrow margins to kick off this campaign before she went up in distance to 1500m at Kembla Grange last time out when running steadily throughout.
Should be sharper here. If she gets the right run, she’s right in it.
2 Units Each Way – Miss Spacegirl (12)
Race 8 - 4:50PM AEST
The Gallipoli Handicap (1400m)
We’ve got a full field for the card closer, and it is a very open betting race to see things out on ANZAC Day at Randwick.
Going for a touch of value with one of the higher-rated and weighted fancies in ASGARDA (3) who is third-up now.
Doug Gorrel’s gutsy Wagga trained The Brothers War mare thrives at the 1400m (4:2-2-0) and will relish getting up to the trip now off two lead-ups over less.
Competitive in the spring’s $2 million The Kosciuszko when fifth at big odds last October in front of a huge crowd, this prep she kicked things off carrying 60kg to a three-quarter length win in the mud at Albury over 1175m.
Second-up in a tough BM84 at Bendigo she ran a disappointing 8th when six lengths off Marble Nine on a Good (3) track.
I’m happy to put a line through that when she just didn’t handle the Melbourne way of racing.
Back in Sydney now she can atone at a price, and Molly Bourke’s apprentice claim puts her in this weight wise.
Expect her to bounce back in a quick form reversal. Taking her Each Way.
1 Unit Each Way – Asgarda (3)
