This Thursday night marks a significant event as the inaugural meeting takes place at the Ladbrokes Q2 Parklands track.
Nine thrilling races are set to run and won, providing the perfect warm-up for the Queensland Winter Greyhound Racing Carnival kicking off next week.
While we don’t know how the new track will play, here’s nine Ladbrokes Q2 Parklands tips that will hopefully provide us with the chocolates.
Oxley Choice (8) has been racing in good form since arriving in Brisbane from New South Wales.
The daughter of Fernando Bale won her first start in the Sunshine State over 520m at Albion Park where she clocked 30.41 seconds.
She then found the line strongly to finish close seconds in her next two starts at Albion Park where she registered a personal best of 30.26 seconds.
Unlike most of her rivals, she has experience over this course and distance courtesy of Monday’s picnic meeting where she clocked 30.19 seconds.
She can be tardy out of the lids, but box 8 should allow her to build momentum.
1 Unit – Oxley Choice (8)
I’m Old School (1) hasn’t won for some time but gets his chance to break through here.
The Tom Tzouvelis-trained dog has finished in the placings in his past two starts and recorded a 30.28 second run over 520m at Albion Park last start when contesting Masters grade for the first time.
He has the benefit of a hit out over this course and distance on Monday where he broke 30 seconds.
From box 1 he should get on the arm and prove hard to beat.
1 Unit – I’m Old School (1)
Zipping Viper (1) for the third race in a row draws the prized box 1.
The Tom Tzouvelis-trained dog didn’t have a lot of luck on the Lakeside track last start but two starts back he proved too strong over 520m at Albion Park where he won in 30.23 seconds.
He raced over the 520m at Q2 Parklands Monday picnic meeting where he registered a winning time of 30.12 seconds.
He’s won two from three when wearing the red rug and looks well placed to add another win to that tally.
1 Unit Each Way – Zipping Viper (1)
Mckeon (8) is racing in a purple patch of form and is shooting for her sixth win a row.
The daughter of Bernardo has been low flying at Casino with each of her past five wins coming over 484m in best of the night times.
She is undefeated in three races when starting from box 8 including last start where she charged across to lead before producing plenty to win the Northern Rivers Cup Final.
This is her first start over the distance but she gives every indication she’ll run it out strongly.
1 Unit – Mckeon (8)
Goldstar Ginny (3) is a New Zealand greyhound having her first start in Queensland.
The Riley Evans-trained bitch was last seen in March storming home from near the back to win the G2 Teressa McDonald Memorial Cup over 747m at Cambridge.
While it’s been nearly two months since her last race, she finds the right race to kick off her preparation.
1 Unit Each Way – Goldstar Ginny (3)
Most of this field have had plenty of chances which is why I’m going with Sterling Brindle (8) is relatively lightly raced with just nine starts.
The son of Feral Franky stepped up to this distance for the first time last start at Albion Park where he settled near the tail before running on strongly to miss the win by a nose in 35.12 seconds.
He’ll be better for the experience and strikes the right opposition.
1 Unit – Sterling Brindle (8)
Stowaway (4) will appreciate the drop back to 600m after not having a great deal of luck over 720m at Albion Park last start.
The Tom Tzouvelis-trained dog had been racing in good form before that included a third placing in the G3 Golden Chase Final at Ipswich.
He boasts a good record over this distance at Albion Park having broken 35 seconds.
He has won twice and placed second twice in five races from box 4.
1 Unit – Stowaway (4)
Hara’s Kitana (2) has started her career in perfect fashion with four wins in a row.
The daughter of Hooked On Scotch has been clocking quick times over this distance at Albion Park including a win in the Eric Thomson Memorial Final where she stopped the clock in 29.89 seconds two starts ago.
She’s lightning early so should be able to get on the arm and go all the way from box 2.
I’m happy to make her my best bet at Ladbrokes Q2 Parklands on Thursday night.
2 Units – Hara’s Kitana (2)
Know All Leah (2) was slow away and it proved costly last start when finishing 4.25 lengths third over 450m at Grafton.
The daughter of Sennachie had been racing in good form before that with a win over 484m at Casino in 27.51 seconds three starts ago before giving Mckeon a tough fight when going down by a whisker at the same venue.
Her best results have come from box 2 and she should be able to find a forward position.
1 Unit – Know All Leah (2)
