As it stands, Van Gerwen needs to win the night to leapfrog Aspinall and maintain his near-perfect finals qualification record in the Premier League.
Luke Littler v Stephen Bunting
Luke Littler’s record against last-placed Stephen Bunting is not as dominant as one would expect with Littler holding a 5-3 record over The Bullet.
The last two meetings have gone down to a deciding set.

The Asp just has the scrap in him and in such an important affair one suspects he will step up.

Rob Cross has a very nice recent record against Luke Humphries and can best him again, earning a much-deserved win after an unlucky season.
Cross has won six of the last nine clashes with Humphries though Cool Hand has claimed two of three this Premier League season.
Cross has the third highest average and this highest checkout percentage so has been desperately unlucky.

Gerwyn Price v Chris Dobey
Price has dominated Dobey for a long time.
He has won both Premier League matches 6-2 this year with the overall record 15-3 in the Welshman’s favour.
Price mixes his form but he usually has it against Dobey, who rarely backs up a good run.
Chips in Price in this one as the best bet of the opening round.
