GIOVANNI MPETSHI PERRICARD VS HOLGER RUNE
BACK MPETSHI PERRICARD TO COVER THE GAMES HANDICAP (+2.5) @ $1.73

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard is aiming to eliminate a second straight top-10 seed in the form of Holger Rune.

The head-to-head is one-all, with Perricard winning their Basel Open semifinal last year and Rune prevailing at the recent Canadian Masters.

World No.37 Mpetishi Perricard has emerged from a lean run of results to beat Luca Nardi (6-3 7-6) and fifth seed Taylor Fritz (6-4 7-5).

Rune arrived in Shanghai in similarly modest form but has put away Sebastian Baez (7-5 6-4) and 21st seed Ugo Humbert (6-4 6-4).

If Mpetshi Perricard replicates the serving performance he produced against Fritz, he shapes as a solid option with a start.

JAUME MUNAR VS NOVAK DJOKOVIC
BACK DJOKOVIC TO COVER THE GAMES HANDICAP (-4.5) @ $1.95

Spanish journeyman Jaume Munar confronts ageless legend Novak Djokovic in the Shanghai Masters’ Round of 16.

Their only previous encounter was at the 2018 French Open, where Djokovic won in straight sets.

World No.41 Munar produced a career-best grand slam run at the US Open, reaching the fourth round, and has maintained that momentum with wins over Marton Fucsovics (4-6 7-5 6-1), 22nd seed Flavio Cobolli (7-5 6-1) and Yoshihito Nishioka (6-4 5-7 6-1) in Shanghai.

The 28-year-old is shooting for his maiden ATP 1000 quarterfinal berth.

Djokovic is lining up in his first non-grand slam tournament since May, having reached the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open semis.

The runner-up here last year, four-time Shanghai Masters champion Djokovic has survived a couple of tough battles so far against Marin Cilic (7-6 6-4) and Yannik Hanfmann (4-6 7-5 6-3).

Expect him to close this out a bit quicker.

LINDA NOSKOVA VS YULIA PUTINTSEVA
BACK NOSKOVA TO WIN 2-0 @ $2.40

In-form Linda Noskova lines up against Yulia Putintseva for the fourth time in less than 15 months in the first round of the Wuhan Open.

Noskova has a 2-1 lead against Putintseva, winning in quick succession at the Qatar Open and Dubai Championships earlier this year after Putintseva’s victory at the 2024 US Open.

Twenty-year-old Noskova climbed to a career-high No.17 by reaching the China Open final last week, beating the likes of Qinwen Zheng and Jessica Pegula before losing to Amanda Anisimiova in three sets.

Sliding to No.63 after cracking the top 20 for the first time in January, Putintseva crushed Diane Parry and Anna Blinkova in qualifying for this tournament. But the 30-year-old has only won one main draw tour-level match in the past three and a half months.

It’s been a big couple of weeks for Noskova and this is a short turnaround, but the tyro’s current momentum bodes well for an assertive win over her veteran opponent.

BELINDA BENCIC VS DONNA VEKIC
BACK BENCIC TO WIN 2-0 @ $1.85

Swiss 13th seed Belinda Bencic gets her Wuhan Open campaign underway against experienced Croatian Donna Vekic.

Bencic has a 4-1 advantage in this rivalry, most recently winning at the 2022 Tallinn Open.

In a superb season returning from maternity leave, Bencic reached the Wimbledon semis but endured a disappointing North American swing. She beat Katie Volynets and Priscilla Hon at the China Open, before being eliminated by Coco Gauff in a three-setter.

After reaching a career-high No.17 in January, Vekic has tumbled to 71st. She also lost to Gauff in the second round of the US Open, while she went down convincingly to Cristina Bucsa at the China Open in her only match since.

This shapes as a straightforward assignment for Bencic, who boasts a 30-15 record in 2025.
