Australian duo Tristan Schoolkate and Adam Walton square off in the first round of the Almaty Open in Kazakhstan.
The compatriots have met seven times at Challenger level and in qualifying matches since the start of 2023. Schoolkate leads the count 4-3, including two wins in 2025.
World No.96 Schoolkate is searching for his first main draw win since beating Lorenzo Sonego at the US Open. He went down to Daniel Altmaier at the Shanghai Masters and lost a Jinan Challenger match to Zhou Yi last week, both in straight sets.
Walton, ranked 76th, played at the same Challenger event, beating Sun Fajing before losing to Brandon Holt.
The 26-year-old upset Daniil Medvedev at the Cincinnati Masters and Ugo Humbert at the US Open and holds more appeal in this pick ’em, despite Schoolkate’s rivalry edge.

Brazilian teenager Joao Fonesca and Dutchman Botic Van de Zandschulp come together in the first round of the Brussels-hosted European Open.
Fonesca won their only previous clash 6-4 7-6 at the 2024 Davis Cup.
World No.45 Fonesca chalked up wins on debut at all four grand slams this year (including his first top-10 victory against Andrey Rublev at the Australian Open) and won his maiden ATP title at the Argentina Open.
The 2024 ATP Next Gen champ beat Miomir Kecmanovic at the US Open before going down to Tomas Machac; his only ATP outing since was a Laver Cup loss to Flavio Cobolli, instead opting for Davis Cup duty.
World No.86 Van de Zandschulp reached the final of the Winston-Salem Open but hasn’t won a main draw match since. He failed to qualify for the China Open and lost 7-6 7-6 to Nuno Borges in the first round of the Shanghai Masters.
Fonesca boasts the more trustworthy formline and shapes as solid value as a $1.53 favourite.
Ningbo Open fifth seed Clara Tauson takes on Aussie veteran Ajla Tomljanovic in the first round.
The head-to-head is two-all. Tomljanovic won their Hong Kong 125 Open final last October, while Tauson took out a Cincinnati Masters clash two months ago – with both matches producing totals of 30-plus games.
World No.12 Tauson’s breakout season includes a maiden WTA 1000 final at the Dubai Championships, while she beat 2025 slam winners Iga Swiatek and Madison Keys to reach the Canadian Masters semis.
The Danish 22-year-old is coming off a Round of 16 run at the Wuhan Open, retiring during the third set of her clash with Jasmine Paolini.
Currently outside the top 100, Tomljanovic came from a set down in qualifying to beat Maya Joint and sealed her main draw spot by thrashing Antonio Ruzic.
It’s been some time since the Tomljanovic toppled a player of Tauson’s calibre or ranking, however, and this looms as a tough assignment for the 31-year-old.
Czech rivals and fellow grand slam finalists Marketa Vondrousova and Karolina Muchova lock horns in the Ningbo Open’s first round.
Vondrousova leads the head-to-head 2-1, but her wins were in 2017-18. Muchova won an Indian Wells Masters encounter in 2023.
World No.36 Vondrousova returns to action for the first time since pulling out of her US Open quarterfinal. She had previously been in tremendous touch in New York, eliminating top-10 seeds Jasmine Paolini and Elena Rbyakina.
Muchova, ranked 20th, also made it to the US Open quarters, losing to Naomi Osaka after beating Linda Noskova and Marta Kostyuk. She’s performed adequately on the Asian swing, winning against Sorana Cirstea and Kostyuk again, and losing to Amanda Anisimova and Magdalena Frech.
Muchova is the narrow favourite and the more appealing option with Vondrousova lining up in her first match for six weeks.
