2025 Hero World Challenge Preview

The Hero World Challenge traces its roots back to 2000 and has become the traditional year-end event with a small field lighting it up in the Bahamas.

Key Stats/Skill Set Required

  • Par 5 Scoring
  • Par 3 Scoring
  • Driving Distance
  • Strokes Gained: Off The Tee
  • Scrambling
  • Birdies

The Ernie Els designed course is unique with five Par 5s and five Par 3s and attempts to bring in elements of the Melbourne sandbelt, English links courses and South African classic courses. It is not a strenuous test and typically delivers a top-shelf winner.

Key Correlation Courses/Tournaments

  • DP World Tour Championship
  • Open Championship
  • Waste Management Phoenix Open

BEST BET

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER

Scottie Scheffler is the best player on the planet and has won the last two Hero World Challenges and looks set to become the first player to win three straight. Scheffler has never met an easier field and even at $2.40 is over the odds. Nobody profiles better. He has won the last two by three and six strokes and he ranks 2nd in Par 5 Scoring, 2nd in Strokes Gained: Off The Tee, 2nd in Birdie or Better, 3rd in Scrambling and 5th in Par 3 Scoring.

BEST VALUE

HIDEKI MATSUYAMA

The former Masters winner has not enjoyed his best year but he has found some form over the back half of the season with four straight Top 20 showings. Hideki is elite around the greens, ranking 10th in Scrambling. He has Top 25 finishes in the last two Phoenix Opens – and is a prior winner – while he finished 16th in the Open Championship last year.

BEST ROUGHIES

CHRIS GOTTERUP

Chris Gotterup shot to prominence last year with a win in the Scottish Open followed by a third in the Open Championship and that puts him in good stead here. A big hitter, Gotterup ranks 7th in Driving Distance and 9th in Strokes Gained: Off The Tee. He looks the best blowout hope.
