Albion Park Harness Preview – Tuesday 14th July

Albion Park Harness Preview – Tuesday 14th July

Albion Park hosts Tuesday night harness racing with a nine-race card to kick off the week.

Oli Cownie previews the meeting with his race-by-race analysis, key runners, selections and suggested bets.

Race 1

ICONIC IMAGE (6) continued his winning run last time out making it a hat-trick of wins last time out after starting off a 20 metre handicap he was very well driven to nab the 1-1 before sprinting nicely late to beat PROPELLED PRINCESS (2). He gets back to a mobile in this race but does draw outside of a number of gate speed horses. He can look to make it four in a row.

SERENA LOVE (5) sat without cover two starts ago and was able to run a good second to Fredidrivsamercury over this track and trip. She has early speed and draws to advantage over her biggest danger in Iconic Image. She should run well again.

PROPELLED PRINCESS (2) looked to have found a suitable race last time out with a big handicap advantage on key rivals including Iconic Image who she takes on again in this race. She sat behind the leader and was held up at a crucial stage before running on strongly behind Iconic Image in what was a really good effort. She is still a maiden but won’t be for long if she continues to race as well as she is.

NONIS GOLD CLASS (4) ran well last time out when first up from a spell when showing gate speed to lead over the 1660 before just finding Iconic Image a touch too good for her late. She is likely to be better for the first up outing and should run well again with the draw advantage on a few of her main rivals.

SELECTIONS: ICONIC IMAGE (6), SERENA LOVE (5), PROPELLED PRINCESS (2), NONIS GOLD CLASS (4)

SUGGESTED BET: SERENA LOVE (5) to win.

Race 2

HARRY THE HAT (4) sat without cover last time out and was just nabbed late by stablemate Fit And Ready who was able to secure the perfect run leaders back. He should be able to find a forward position again in this race from a good draw and should run well again.

STRADDIE BABE (1) put in an impressive run on debut finishing third behind Shine Like Me and Harper Delight. She trialled just fairly when beaten a long way by Protostar runner Don Hugo. She has had nearly two weeks since that trial and is likely to be fitter.

LONG AWAITED (7) ran an impressive fifth last time out when having her second career start in the Breeders Classic Final which was taken out by Shine Like Me. She draws poorly in this race but drops a long way in grade and should be very hard to beat with the right run in the race.

MATT DAN (8) started a short price favourite last time out at this track when seemingly putting in a disappointing run on debut finishing third after securing a very cheap lead. He had trialled up reasonably before his debut and is likely to have derived benefit from the outing.

SELECTIONS: HARRY THE HAT (4), STRADDIE BABE (1), LONG AWAITED (7), MATT DAN (8)

SUGGESTED BET: HARRY THE HAT (4) to win.

Solid performance when beaten by 1.2 m finishing second behind Hes A Dancer at this track over 1660m in a 2yo on June 30 at $26. Then a handy effort when a close second behind Fit And Ready at this track over 1660m in a 2yo on July 7 at $4. Among the top chances again.

Race 3

LARR DEES SON (6) is first up for Al Barnes having previously done his racing in NSW. He showed brilliant gate speed in the trial to fly out and lead before being shuffled back and running on well late to not be beaten too far behind Ikigai who contested heats of the Inter Dominion over the past two Saturdays.

ALADDIN SANE (5) started from a big handicap last time out at this track of 50 metres when running into fifth behind Iconic Image. He looks better suited under mobile conditions but may be shuffled back in the early stages. He should be running on late.

GAZ MAN (9) has been an improver in recent outings running a good race two starts ago to be beaten 14 metres behind Iconic Image after starting off a 50 metres handicap before running well again last start finishing third behind Ourpetabilt. He should run well again.

ITZ TRIXTON TIME (1) secured a good run on the pegs two starts ago and wasn’t beaten far by Alderbaran Fonz. He doesn’t possess a lot of gate speed but should settle close enough and can run well again.

SELECTIONS: LARR DEES SON (6), ALADDIN SANE (5), GAZ MAN (9), ITZ TRIXTON TIME (1)

SUGGESTED BET: LARR DEES SON (6) to win.

Albion Park R3 – Pryde’s Easifeed Easilyte Trotters Mbl
Open Race time:
6. Larr Dees Son (5)
J: Brendan Barnes
4215xT: Al Barnes
Returns after 23 months in the paddock. Finished off last campaign when well beaten into fifth after showing early speed, behind Titan Stride at Menangle over 2300m on August 27 2024 at $2.50. Could make a winning return.

Race 4

NITRATOR (6) led and over raced badly last time out at this track and trio before fading into fourth late while still rating a fast personal mile rate. He draws wide here but has plenty of gate speed and may be able to work across to the lead. If he finds the front he is likely to be very hard to run down.

OURBEACHGIRLMAYWYN (3) led last time out over the 2040 at Redcliffe when scoring a dominant win over Williams. She draws well again in this race and may be able to press onto the lead before having options.

FIGHT FOR VICTORY (10) secured a good run last time out when sitting 1-1 and running on fairly late into second behind Enola. He seems to be well below what he showed he was capable of as a 2YO but is gradually getting a touch better each run and should get a good run off the speed and can be running on late again.

NUMBER ONE RANGER (9) steps up a very long way in grade here off a debut win in a maiden field last time out. He started big odds on debut but was able to come from back in the field and flash down the outside running a very fast 28.07 last quarter considering he was widest on the track and it was just his first start. He is unlikely to be one of the favoured runners in this race but clearly has good ability and is worth keeping in mind.

SELECTIONS: NITRATOR (6), OURBEACHGIRLMAYWYN (3), FIGHT FOR VICTORY (10), NUMBER ONE RANGER (9)

SUGGESTED BET: NITRATOR (6) to win.

Last start 4th (Fr1) over 1660m after showing early speed at this track beaten 8 m by Timmyteo (1:55.30) in 3yo CG on May 30 at $2. Before that, 4th (Fr7) over 1660m after showing early speed and racing wide at this track beaten 8 m by Pure Grunt (1:58.90) in 3yo CG on May 22 at $15. Finds the right race this time.

Race 5

GOODOLDBOYSANDBEER (7) was taken back from a wide draw last time out and was doing his best work late through the line in a race over the 1660 at this track. He is likely to be better suited to the 2138 and was having his first start for over a month in his latest outing. He can run well despite the tricky draw.

POCKER BOOK (10) was forced to race without cover in her latest outing which isn’t usually her preferred position in running. She appeared a strong hope turning for home but just peaked on her run and had to settle for fourth late not beaten far. She should run well in this company.

JAY TEE TYRON (4) appeared to have his chance to finish a touch closer last time out when securing a good run 1 out 1 back in his latest outing over the 1660. He has at times throughout mixed his form but does appear to be very well graded in this race and should be hard to beat with the right run.

BLUE BLOODZ (1) secured a good run last time out at Redcliffe before being held up at a crucial stage in a race taken out by Aqua Cuiser. He seems to be best suited when sat up and saved for one run at this stage of his career. He should have options from the good draw.

SELECTIONS: GOODOLDBOYSANDBEER (7), POCKER BOOK (10), JAY TEE TYRON (4), BLUE BLOODZ (1)

SUGGESTED BET: GOODOLDBOYSANDBEER (7) to win.

Last start was driven from back in the field when 7th (Fr6) over 1660m after racing wide at this track beaten 5.5 m by One Chain Road (2:02.10) in 3yo+ on July 7 at $6. Before that, a solid effort when 3rd (Fr2) over 1660m after showing early speed at this track beaten 4 m by Warrawee Flyer (1:58.80) in 3yo+ on May 19 at $5. Go well.

Race 6

LILSTREPO (2) was excellent last time out in what was a strong race taken out by Bubby To Base. She was forced to breeze after burning to lead early and appeared to travel up strongly turning for home before tiring late to finish a close up fifth. She draws well and looks hard to beat.

MAHINDI (1) was crossed last time out by Studleigh Mark before being shuffled back on the pegs. She was still able to finish off well to run into third there. She has the inside draw again and finds a race where there appears to be a touch less gate speed. If she could lead she would be hard to run down.

STARZZZ DESTINY (6) was able to press forward last time out before finding the front and rolling a very genuine tempo in a race Hell Of A Hand was able to score at big odds. He has a wide draw this time and may be left to do the work which could make things tougher for him.

RACE FOR RICHES (8) should get a good run through in behind a horse likely to be keen to find a forward position in this race. He was running on strongly last time out in behind Rocksngems over the mile and can look to do the same again in this race.

SELECTIONS: LILSTREPO (2), MAHINDI (1), STARZZZ DESTINY (6), RACE FOR RICHES (8)

SUGGESTED BET: LILSTREPO (2) to win.

Capable of better than we have seen lately. Last start 5th (Fr3) over 1660m after showing early speed at this track beaten 6 m by Bubby To Base (1:55.60) on July 2 at $9. The run prior 9th (Sr2) over 1780m at Redcliffe, well beaten by Reds Star Deal (2:08.70) in 3yo+ on June 26 at $8.50. Strong claims from a good draw.

Race 7

ROCKNROLL WALLA (6) was very unlucky last time out at this track when handing over before being badly held up at a crucial stage before finishing off nicely into third late in very fast time for the 2138. If he can work across to the lead this time back to the 1660 he looks very hard to beat.

SPIRIT OF ANARCHY (9) was able to score an impressive win when having his first run for the stable of Matt Elkins last time out. He was well driven to punch through early off the back row and find the lead before setting a genuine tempo proving too good for Kick The Switch and O B Legal. He should run well again.

CLASSIE WASHINGTON (7) sat without cover last time out at this track and trip and battled away strongly there for fourth behind Spirit Of Anarchy who was able to find the front in that race.

O B LEGAL (3) has excellent gate speed and may be able to find the front before handing over to one of the fancied runners in the race. He can be forgiven for his last start effort when unsuited breezing over the 2138 at this track.

SELECTIONS: ROCKNROLL WALLA (6), SPIRIT OF ANARCHY (9), CLASSIE WASHINGTON (7), O B LEGAL (3)

SUGGESTED BET: ROCKNROLL WALLA (6) to win.

Two back was beaten by 8 m finishing fourth behind Always Be Chaps at this track over 2138m on May 28 at $7. Then a handy effort when beaten by 3.5 m finishing third after showing early speed, behind Credulous at this track over 2138m on July 2 at $3.30. One of the primary contenders.

Race 8

ALTA SENSATION (5) has bounced back to some of his better form in recent outings running two consecutive second placings. He led last time out from a good draw and was just run down late by Dolly Rocket over this trip. He has led his past two outings which he may not be able to do this time which could make things tougher.

BART BENTLEY (2) was very unlucky last time out after making a strong challenge for the lead early he was forced to take a trail before pulling out and running on powerfully when just run down by Zac Daniels. He draws outside a horse which isn’t noted for his gate speed and should roll to the lead and be very hard to run down.

JOHN WAYNE (6) drew poorly last time out and was shuffled a long way back in the run before hitting the line nicely late to not be beaten far behind Queen Lilibet. He draws wide here but is a horse capable of doing some work in a race of this nature.

AMILLIONCHANCES (1) has had plenty of issues previously from this draw making early errors or being shuffled a long way back. He is likely to be driven conservatively early but should still settle close enough in the run. He was a good winner last time out over the 2138 and should run well again.

SELECTIONS: ALTA SENSATION (5), BART BENTLEY (2), JOHN WAYNE (6), AMILLIONCHANCES (1)

SUGGESTED BET: BART BENTLEY (2) to win.

Last start 2nd (Fr3) over 1780m at Redcliffe, beaten a neck by Zac Daniels (2:11.40) in 3yo+ on July 8 at $10. Two runs back was well back in the run when 6th (Fr5) over 1780m after being wide early at Redcliffe beaten 11 m by Bolzano (2:10.40) in 3yo+ on July 1 at $10. Others look better placed.

Race 9

LUKA DONCIC (4) has run two consecutive second placings and appears to be closing in on another victory. He has been left without cover both of his last two starts including his second to Amillionchances last time out over the 2138. He should be right up on speed again in this race and can run well again.

SHE MAYBE BETTOR (1) was desperately unlucky last time out when racing on the pegs in a race which the leader tired badly and impeded her at a crucial stage of the race when running fourth. She draws well in this race and has some gate speed which should give her options from the good draw.

MONOPOLLIE (9) looked to head forward last time out at Redcliffe before nabbing the leaders back in a race taken out by Little Hoofananny. He didn’t appear to pace as well as he can last start at Redcliffe and may be better suited by racing around the bigger track at Albion Park.

MILLIEWOOD (3) ran well last start in a similar field to this one at Albion Park over 2138 when running third behind Amillionchances. She should settle close enough from a good draw in this race and if the race is run to suit she should be running on well again.

SELECTIONS: LUKA DONCIC (4), SHE MAYBE BETTOR (1), MONOPOLLIE (9), MILLIEWOOD (3)

SUGGESTED BET: LUKA DONCIC (4) to win.
