Friday’s 9-race card at The Triangle is broken down by harness expert Oli Cownie. Check out his Redcliffe preview below!
MY PURPLE PATCH (1) has been working back into form and put in another solid effort last time out in a reasonably strong race which was taken out by Majorita Jujon. He draws to lead early before having options from there and he should run well.
ART JESTER (7) should get a good run through behind his stablemate in this race. He got back last start and was running on nicely late into fourth behind At The Pointy End at Marburg which is a track that it can be tough to make ground at out wide. He should get every chance.
BORELLA (4) ran well two starts ago when beaten by a horse with momentum down the outside at this track. He draws a touch awkwardly in this race and may be shuffled back in the early stages.
IDEAL ASSASSIN (8) got a good run off the speed last time out and was running on nicely late into third behind Cedar Creek Falls. She should get a good run off the speed in this race and should be running on well late.
SELECTIONS: MY PURPLE PATCH (1), ART JESTER (7), BORELLA (4), IDEAL ASSASSIN (8)
SUGGESTED BET: ART JESTER (7) each way.
| 7. Art Jester (1) J: Taleah McMullen 17384T: Alyce Finnis | |||
| Last start 4th (Sr3) over 1850m at Marburg, beaten 5.5 m by At The Pointy End (2:15.50) in 3yo+ on July 26 at $15. Two runs back was well back in the run when 8th (Fr4) over 1780m at this track, beaten 30 m by Real Tin Tin (2:08.00) in 3yo+ on July 17 at $51. Form not up to scratch. | |||
ALWAYS ADORNED (5) secured a good run on the pegs last time out at Albion Park when running on into fourth behind Bubby To Base. She scored a good win in her race prior to last start when getting back in the run before finishing over the top late. She looks well placed in this company.
ROLL TO THE TOP (9) was able to secure a good run off the speed last time out and was running on well late into second behind Bizzie Lizzie at this track over the 2040. She looks likely to secure a similar run off the speed in this race and should be running on well late.
MAJOR ORION (4) seems to be a difficult horse to get a read on. He seems to love racing up on speed and only just does what he has to. He was able to sit without cover last time out and score a nice win over the 2040. He may be able to work his way to the lead in this race but does seem a bit lazy at times out in front.
MAYWYN TROUBADOUR (8) led last time out setting a strong tempo at this track before pulling away late for a dominant win. He has had nearly a month between runs and draws the back row this time which look slight queries.
SELECTIONS: ALWAYS ADORNED (5), ROLL TO THE TOP (9), MAJOR ORION (4), MAYWYN TROUBADOUR (8)
SUGGESTED BET: ALWAYS ADORNED (5) to win.
| 5. Always Adorned (5) J: Adam Richardson 82714T: Grant Jones | |||
| Last start 4th (Sr1) over 1660m at Albion Park beaten 8 m by Bubby To Base (1:56.10) in 4yo+ on July 25 at $23. Two runs back posted a big 6 m win as favourite (Sr3) at Albion Park (1:59.10) beating Edward Jay in 3yo+ on July 16 at $1.45. Should be there at the business end. | |||
BLING THE NOISE (2) has good gate speed and usually goes when in races when able to lead. He drew poorly last time out and was well beaten as a result behind Rosies Boy after getting back in the run. He draws well in this race and if he can find the lead early he should be hard to beat in this race.
TIGER TOMMY (1) draws ideally in this race and should get a good run close to the speed. She was shuffled back last time out and hit the line fairly last start over the 1780 behind Little Hoofananny. She should be running on well late.
LITTLE HOOFANANNY (9) was able to secure a good run behind the speed recently at this track when finishing it off best to score. She then raced without luck on a Saturday night at Albion Park when being shuffled a long way back in the run. She looks well placed to run another good race.
VINNIE NITRO (5) secured a good run on the pegs behind the speed two starts ago and finished powerfully late to reel in Roll To The Top who looked to have them beaten half way down the straight. She draws awkwardly here and may be shuffled back early.
SELECTIONS: BLING THE NOISE (2), TIGER TOMMY (1), LITTLE HOOFANANNY (9), VINNIE NITRO (5)
SUGGESTED BET: BLING THE NOISE (2) to win.
| 2. Bling The Noise (2) J: Nathan Dawson 76489T: D J Stewart | |||
| Didn’t do much last start, was well back in the run when 9th (Fr6) over 2040m after being wide early at this track beaten 22 m by Rosies Boy (2:33.30) in 3yo+ on July 20 at $151. Before that was well back in the run when 8th (Fr5) over 1780m at this track, beaten 21 m by Ascot Annie (2:12.20) in 3yo+ on July 13 at $23. Must do a lot more. | |||
BEACH MAGIC (5) showed gate speed to find the front last time out and was able to take them all the way to beat Jilliby Panda who sat on his back in the run. He draws wide this time but may be able to work to the lead again in this race and if he could do that he would likely be hard to beat.
LAST CALL (8) should get a good run off the speed in a race which looks like it could be run to suit. She got a good run off the speed two starts ago and was able to run down Little Surfer Girl who had done plenty of work in the race. She should be running on well.
SAINT LOUIS BEAT (1) has good gate speed and should be able to lead before having options from there. He secured a good run on the pegs last time out and was running on nicely late into second at Marburg behind Its One Life.
WELL SAID NUGGET (9) secured a good run off the speed last time out and was running on late into fifth. He does seem a horse better served when able to race on the pegs but does appear well graded and can be running on late.
SELECTIONS: BEACH MAGIC (5), LAST CALL (8), SAINT LOUIS BEAT (1), WELL SAID NUGGET (9)
SUGGESTED BET: LAST CALL (8) to win.
| 8. Last Call (2) J: Nathan Dawson 84315T: J M Anderson | |||
| Failed to impress last start; was well back in the run when 5th (Fr5) over 1780m after racing wide at this track, beaten 3.5 m by Erasmus (2:13.80) in 3yo+ on July 17 at $8.50. Showed ability the race before when she won by a neck (Sr2) at this track (2:11.10) beating Little Surfer Girl in 3yo+ on July 8 at $2.30. Serious player on best form. | |||
FLY BURRA (1) has just moderate gate speed but with the aid of gate 1 at the 2040 start point he may just be able to drive through and lead before having options from there. He loomed into the race strongly last start at Marburg but did cop a flat tyre which may have been why he couldn’t quite reel in the leader.
SNIP OF BEAUTY (7) should get a good run through behind a horse that is likely to be keen to hold a forward position in this race. She was shuffled a long way back last time out and was running on late in a race which was won by the leader Art Of Rock.
THE HARRIS HAWK (6) ran well last start after securing a good run just off the speed at Albion Park in a race taken out by Lets Go Bailey. He draws wide and may be shuffled back this time but should be running on well late if the race is run to suit.
PERFECT FEELING (3) made a break early last time out before over racing and was just run down late over rolling along out in front finishing fourth. He draws the front row this time and may look for the front again. He should be hard to beat.
SELECTIONS: FLY BURRA (1), SNIP OF BEAUTY (7), THE HARRIS HAWK (6), PERFECT FEELING (3)
SUGGESTED BET: FLY BURRA (1) to win.
| 1. Fly Burra (1) J: Jack Chapple 52464T: Jude Mclachlan | |||
| Last start 4th (Sr2) over 2200m at Marburg, beaten 4.5 m by Its One Life (2:50.80) in 3yo+ on July 26 at $2.20. Before that, 6th (Fr6) over 1780m at this track beaten 10 m by Turbo Tommy (2:10.40) in 3yo+ on July 20 at $10. Has a low draw and should go well. | |||
FILLY THIRTEEN (1) has good gate speed and should be able to drive through and lead in this race. She led last time out and kicked strongly for home before being run down in the final strides by Doc Harvey. She is likely to be nearing peak fitness fourth up from a spell.
CONNIES SPIRIT (7) should get a good run through early behind the potential leader in the race. She secured a similar type of run last time out and ran on well late to not be beaten far by Oyster Stride at this track. She should be hard to hold out.
ILLBEWATCHING (5) got back last time out and was running on strongly late to finish third behind Oyster Stride and his stablemate Connies Spirit. He draws wide in this race and may be shuffled back again but should be running on well late.
THREE CHORD RIFF (9) should get a good run off the speed in this race from a good trailing draw. She was forced to sit without cover last time out which probably isn’t how she is best suited in her races and she battled on well for third.
SELECTIONS: FILLY THIRTEEN (1), CONNIES SPIRIT (7), ILLBEWATCHING (5), THREE CHORD RIFF (9)
SUGGESTED BET: CONNIES SPIRIT (7) to win.
| 7. Connies Spirit (1) J: Leonard Cain 87732T: S W Dickson | |||
| Not far away at the last couple starts; Finished 1.1 m second behind Oyster Stride at this track over 1780m 3yo+ last start. Before that was beaten 4 metres third again at this track same class on July 13. Big chance on the latest effort from the same gate. | |||
CAPTAIN JAZZ (2) lands in the stable of Donny Smith and could be a big improver having her first start in the state of QLD. She led last time out and appeared to have been a touch disappointing when fading out of it into eighth after starting favourite in that race. She can lead and run well.
OHOKAREDROBINJUJON (7) got back in the run last time out and was running on nicely late into second behind Qilin at this track. He draws awkwardly inside the back row in this race and may need luck at the right time to get into the clear.
OUR ANGELS ENVY (3) got back in the run last start as favourite and finished it off well into second behind Tellmeaboutit who had raced up on the speed. She should settle a bit closer from a good draw this time and can be running on late again.
TORO LOCO (6) got back in the run last time out and was finishing it off strongly into fourth behind Qilin. He appears likely to be shuffled back again in this race and will need the race run to suit.
SELECTIONS: CAPTAIN JAZZ (2), OHOKAREDROBINJUJON (7), OUR ANGELS ENVY (3), TORO LOCO (6)
SUGGESTED BET: CAPTAIN JAZZ (2) to win.
| 2. Captain Jazz (2) J: Nathan Dawson x6218T: Donny Smith | |||
| Beaten favourite last start when eighth at Dubbo on July 3. Scored the start prior at Riverina Paceway on June 26. Rates highly. Major player on best form. | |||
BLACK GEMSTONE (6) draws poorly in this race but does seem to do her best work when driven quietly and saved for one run in her races. She got back last time out and was running on well late into third behind Kingsbury. This race doesn’t look any tougher.
CHARLIE MY BOY (4) made a break when first up for his new stable at Marburg and was sent back to trials as a result. His latest trial looked a nice enough effort when finishing third for a race of this nature. He should run well.
PLAYING FOR KEEPS (8) secured a good run three starts ago over the 2040 at this track and was battling on well for fourth behind Ourbeachgirlmaywyn and Williams. She should get an economical run early from a good draw and should be running on late.
TAURUS BROMAC (5) took on a slightly stronger race last time out which was taken out by Qilin where he battled on reasonably late for fifth. He draws poorly in this race but does look better suited in this company.
SELECTIONS: BLACK GEMSTONE (6), CHARLIE MY BOY (4), PLAYING FOR KEEPS (8), TAURUS BROMAC (5)
SUGGESTED BET: BLACK GEMSTONE (6) to win.
| 6. Black Gemstone (6) J: Layne Dwyer 83263T: Ricky Gordon | |||
| Two back was well beaten into sixth behind Mack Attack at Marburg over 1850m on July 6 at $17. Then a handy effort when well beaten into third after being driven well back, behind Kingsbury at this track over 1780m in a 4yo+ on July 17 at $17. Rates highly. Will give a good account. | |||
SERGENTMAJOR JUJON (1) has reasonable early speed and should be able to drive through and lead in this race. Put in his best run yet for the stable of Donny Smith last time out when running on nicely into third behind Long Awaited at this track. He looks to get his chance to break maiden status in this race.
TEQUILASUNRISE (7) was able to lead two starts ago and was just run down late by Usual Suspect who was then able to win his following start. She backed that up with another good run behind Long Awaited last time out. She appears to be closing in strongly on a win and gets every chance in this race from a great draw.
ARKANSAURUS (2) secured a good run on debut two starts ago and was looming into the race strongly before finishing third behind Free Delivery. She then made a break last start and was well beaten as a result behind Wicked Victree. She can bounce back from a good draw.
MCROCKIN (6) secured a suitable run last time out when sitting 1 out 1 back and didn’t quite finish off the race as well as she did in her start prior when running on nicely late into third behind Free Delivery. She draws poorly in this race and will need a few things to go her way.
SELECTIONS: SERGENTMAJOR JUJON (1), TEQUILASUNRISE (7), ARKANSAURUS (2), MCROCKIN (6)
SUGGESTED BET: TEQUILASUNRISE (7) to win.
| 7. Tequilasunrise (1) J: Angus Garrard 44×22T: Vic Frost | |||
| Finished second at her last two starts since resuming from a spell. Last outing was beaten 2.75 metres behind Long Awaited at this track over 1780m on July 24. Has the same draw and gets her chance to break through. | |||
