Shepparton Harness Preview – Tuesday 11th August

OVERVIEW: MADAM REACTOR (2) pushed forward to find the lead, ran along at a rapid rate and was run down over the latter stages when fourth behind Maurlen Compass last outing. She ran a game race for second behind Major Hayley at Shepparton prior and should be in front for a long way from her good draw. SIR SONNY MAGUIRE (8) was left stranded on the outside of the leader from the 1300m and battled on fairly well for fourth behind Elated when resuming. He should be fitter from that effort and performed nicely at the trials prior so he warrants respect. BETTORSWEETVICTORY (4) appeared to have every chance when sixth at Cranbourne last outing. She battled on fairly well for second behind Maurlen Compass prior and she is usually competitive against this class. CORNISHTOWN KID (6) didn’t run a bad race in stronger grade when fifth behind Kia Ora Beauty last week and is not without a chance.  

SELECTIONS: MADAM REACTOR (2), SIR SONNY MAGUIRE (8), BETTORSWEETVICTORY (4), CORNISHTOWN KID (6)  

OVERVIEW: FINAL BOW (5) hasn’t been at her best form recently but she is drawn find the lead over the sprint distance and strikes a suitable assignment now so she is worth another chance. HOLD ON FOREVER (10) is racing consistently and will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment. He was held up for a run at a vital stage and finished off well for fourth at Shepparton last week. ATOMIC GLORY (2) led out then took cover when second behind Pickle It at Cranbourne last outing. He is drawn to gain the position behind the leader again and is worth a ticket each way. CLIVES GIRL (6) settled last on the markers and was held up for a run at a vital stage when fifth (8m) behind Mammals Reason last week. She is capable of sprinting to the line quickly with the right trail forward and rates as a value hope. WHERES WOOD WOOD (9) performs best when she is able to lead so being drawn on the second line is a disadvantage but she is racing too well to dismiss.  

SELECTIONS: FINAL BOW (5), HOLD ON FOREVER (10), ATOMIC GLORY (2), CLIVES GIRL (6)  

OVERVIEW: DEECODE (4) is resuming since a second at Terang in March but he has performed well at the trials and should take beating. He recorded a slick mile rate of 1.55.7 when he recorded a runaway victory at Hamilton at his second career attempt and he makes his debut for trainer Chris Svanosio. ALOT LIKE JEANNIE (9) was resuming since a win at Shepparton in May when she won comfortably after leading throughout at Cranbourne last week. She is a smart filly and should make her presence felt again. CRACKIN PHILTRA (3) is stepping up in class from his latest Bendigo victory but he finished off fast in slick final sectionals so he appears to be capable of taking the next step forward. THE GOLDEN HOOK (8) is capable of sprinting to the line quickly with the right trail forward and is worth an investment from his trailing draw.  

BACK: DEECODE (4) – 1.5 units (each way) 

SELECTIONS: DEECODE (4), ALOT LIKE JEANNIE (9), CRACKIN PHILTRA (3), THE GOLDEN HOOK (8)   

OVERVIEW: MY ROCKING HORSE (2) is a 2yo taking on older horses but she was very impressive in her debut second. She settled three back on the markers, was held up for a run at a vital stage and stormed to the line late so she is capable of going one better here. SCARLETT NIGHT (5) began quickly to find the lead and backed off the tempo mid-race before being run down at the end when third on debut. She performed well at the trials prior and she is nicely bred so she is worth another chance. MAJOR FRIEND (3) has done well this preparation having been placed in all of her four attempts. She settled three back on the markers, moved through to trail the leader on the final corner and used the sprint lane when a close second at Shepparton last week. MAJOR TAXES (4) is a first starter for trainer Trevor Patching, which has performed fairly well in several recent Maryborough trial performances and must be kept safe.  

BACK: MY ROCKING HORSE (2) – 3 units (win) 

SELECTIONS: MY ROCKING HORSE (2), SCARLETT NIGHT (5), MAJOR FRIEND (3), MAJOR TAXES (4)   

OVERVIEW: TEX GOES BANG (6) pushed to race without cover and proved to be too strong at Cranbourne on July 19. This race is of similar quality and he should give a forward showing. MAMMALS REASON (5) is shooting for a hat trick after successive Shepparton victories and this race is no harder. She gained the perfect trip but finished off nicely in a mile rate of 1.57.8 last week. OUR MYSTERY BET (8) settled three back on the markers and kept on grinding away when fifth in a stronger race at Shepparton last week. He raced without cover throughout when he scored at Shepparton prior and should run his usual honest race. IAMAWINGATE (4) and stable mate WINGATE GUY (7) are both racing well enough to figure in the finish.  

SELECTIONS: TEX GOES BANG (6), MAMMALS REASON (5), OUR MYSTERY BET (8), IAMAWINGATE (4)   

OVERVIEW: COVERED IN GOLD (5) led out then took cover at the 1100m and finished off best to win in a slick mile rate of 1.54.2 at Wagga last outing. He is racing very consistently and is meeting a field of similar standard so he must be respected. YARRAMAN JOLT (6) also won from behind the leader last outing. He finished off well in slick final sectionals when third at Shepparton prior so he looms as one of the leading chances again. JUST AS WELL (1) is racing below her best form but she will appreciate a significant drop back in class for this assignment and gains the perfect draw with the aid of a Mares concession claim so she is a possible improver. GINGER ELLA (4) is a speedy filly, which won at Shepparton on June 16 and was placed at Wagga two starts ago. She is capable of showing up if she gains the right luck in running. 

BACK: – COVERED IN GOLD (5) – 1.5 units (each way)  

SELECTIONS: COVERED IN GOLD (5), YARRAMAN JOLT (6), JUST AS WELL (1), GINGER ELLA (4)  

OVERVIEW: LITTLE MISS EMJAY (3) and SHEEZ ONE OF US (4) finished first and second at a recent Shepparton trial performance with LITTLE MISS EMJAY (3) having a head to spare after trailing the leader and seemingly having something in reserve. SHEEZ ONE OF US (4) finished quickly through the middle in that trial from three back on the markers so both horses appear to have ability. STATELY STAR (1) has been placed in two recent trial performances and attempted to lead throughout at her latest Maryborough third so she appears to be well placed from the pole position. QUEEN TRUSCOTT (6) has been trotting consistently against the maiden class and is a minor place prospect.
