Daily Racing Tips – Thursday 13th August

Daily Racing Tips for Thursday August 13th come from Newcastle, where there are a few solid betting opportunities across the card.

We’ve worked through the form, speed maps and key runners to find the best angles for punters. Below are our best bets for the day.

Race 1 – JOCKEYS CELEBRATION DAY CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1880 METRES)
No. 1 Appeared
Each Way

APPEARED (1) is an Irish import having his first start in Australia for Bjorn Baker.

The Justify gelding had three races in his preparation resulting in a win over 2410m at Curragh last start and a placing.

He resumes following a 43-week spell and looks ready to go following two trials with the most recent seeing him hit the line hard over 1200m.

He’s drawn well and should race in a prominent position.

J: Dylan Gibbons 59kg
031xT: Bjorn Baker
Resuming after a ten months break. Not seen since winning won by 0.5 len Curragh Mdn Sw October 16 over 2414m defeating Portnahapple with 61kg at $3. On debut tenth of 18 at Navan Mdn Sw September 6 over 2011m, 9 len behind Railwayview Lady with 58.5kg at $10. Imported stayer making his Australian debut, expected to go close.

Race 3 – MOONSHADOW TQC CRUISES CLASS 1 HANDICAP (900 METRES)
No. 2 Aeternum

AETERNUM (2) will appreciate dropping back to 900m after being pestered in the lead last start over 1000m at Port Macquarie before weakening to finish 2.23 lengths fourth.

The Kristen Buchanan-trained gelding didn’t handle the heavy conditions two starts ago but gave a tremendous sight three back when only being run down in the shadows of the post at Wyong when a head second.

He’s at peak fitness and maps to get a great run on speed.

Most recently 4th of 12 at Port Macquarie Bm58 on July 31 over 1006m, on a slow track; 2.25 len behind Zoucat with 62.5kg at $3.10. Before that ran second last of 8 at Gosford Cl1 on July 18 over 1000m, in the wet; 5.5 len behind Difensivo carrying 57.5kg at $4.40. Drops in weight and deserves another chance.

Race 4 – PORT STEPHENS 4WD TOURS MIDWAY MAIDEN HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
No. 2 Gold Globe

GOLD GLOBE (2) will find this an easier assignment than the metropolitan maiden he competed in last start.

The David Pfeiffer-trained gelding never saw daylight when full of running at Kensington last start and should have finished a lot closer than 1.57 lengths third.

He’ll strip fitter third-up and Kerrin McEvoy sticks.

There looks to be good speed in the race which will aid his cause.

Race 5 – THE PORT STEPHENS EXAMINER 4YO&UP MAIDEN PLATE (1250 METRES)
No. 5 Avon Calling

AVON CALLING (5) has finished in the placings three times in her five career starts and looks close to a breakthrough win.

The Brad Widdup-trained mare produced her best run to date last start at Illawarra Grange where she stormed home down the outside only to be nailed on the line.

She’ll appreciate the rise in distance and will strip fitter third-up.

Chad Schofield can stalk the leaders from the good draw.
