We have Kalgoorlie Cup tips and predictions for the Listed 2300m race at Kalgoorlie on Saturday.
Kalgoorlie Cup odds are available, and there are many well-backed runners in the Western Australian feature race.
The Jester’s Son features prominently in our Kalgoorlie Cup tips and looks a genuine winning chance, with very little separating him from the favourite.
He has put together an excellent preparation, recording two wins and two second placings, including a victory over Opportunistic at his latest start. That is arguably the strongest form reference for this race, and there’s no reason he can’t reproduce that performance on Saturday.
Drawing barrier 2 should allow him to enjoy a favourable run throughout, while his odds are almost double those of the favourite. That makes him difficult to ignore in the betting markets, and we’ll be including him in all our bets, including the quinella.
The Jester’s Son looks set to fight out the finish with Opportunistic for the third time this campaign.
3. The Jester’s Son (2) J: Zephen Johnston-Porter 57kg x2121 T: Helen Harding
Opportunistic went close behind The Jester’s Son at his latest start in Kalgoorlie, and the pair could fight out the finish again.
The Michael Grantham-trained gelding has made an impressive start to his career, winning four of his 13 starts. He showed his quality when defeating The Jester’s Son fresh-up, and a return to that form should be enough to see him get the job done on Saturday.
A son of So You Think, Opportunistic is already rated 93 and continues to climb the ranks. There’s a good reason he has been installed as the short-priced favourite, with more upside than most of his rivals. We’d be surprised if he didn’t finish in the top two.
At $2.40, there is enough value to include him in win bets for the Kalgoorlie Cup.
2. Opportunistic (7) J: Chris Parnham 57.5kg 33×12 T: Michael Grantham
Steve Wolfe lines up Curramundi in the Kalgoorlie Cup, and while taking down the favourites won’t be an easy task, the 11-time winner brings plenty of class and experience to the field.
The 8YO son of Playing God finished fourth in a similar race at his latest start. While turning the tables on the leading contenders could prove difficult, he shouldn’t be dismissed and could add plenty of value to trifecta and same-race multi bets.
Brayden Gaerth will be looking to turn his recent run of results around, and this could be the ride that gets him back among the winners. At $16, Curramundi is worth including in wider bets, and punters can expect another honest effort from the experienced gelding.
6. Currimundi (4) J: Brayden Gaerth 54kg 03684 T: Steve Wolfe
Punters get value odds with our Kalgoorlie Cup SRM, which includes our three selected runners.
We have The Jester’s Son Top 2, Opportunistic Top 2, and Curramundi Top 5, which pays $9.50 for our three-runner SRM.
Our bet hinges on the favourites running the quinella, but they are the leading chances in this race, so they should run well.
