We’re off to Randwick-Kensington on Wednesday, October 7th and seven races are on the program.
The inclement weather that lashed Sydney over the weekend has seen the track rated in the Soft (7) range at publish, while the rail will be left in the true position around the entire course.
Simply scroll down for this week’s Randwick-Kensington best bets.
With a short-priced favourite engaged, I’m actually keen to take him on with one that has also bee, knocking on the door – IOMMI (4).
Iommi returned to action to finish on the placegetters’ heels over 1250m at Canterbury last month and hit the line at Rosehill last Wednesday, beaten just over half a length.
With further improvement and on the quick back up, the $7.50 about him at publish looks a touch of overs again.

PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL (5) puts an unbeaten record on the line on Wednesday.
Having debuted with a fine performance to win easily at Scone last month, Punxsutawney Phil repeated the dose with another comfortable victory at Illawarra Grange last time.
This is another obvious rise in class, but everything that he has done so far has suggested it won’t be an issue, and he is undoubtedly open to further improvement.

ALABAMA FOX (1) is second up and primed to strike at Randwick-Kensington.
Alabama Fox has been a model of consistency throughout her career and returned to action to only just miss in a similar contest at Warwick Farm a fortnight ago.
Stripping fitter and out to 1400m, she’s yet to finish worse than second at this point of her preparation, and she is my best bet on the program.

STANDARD DEVIATION (4) strikes a winnable race at Randwick-Kensington.
While yet to strike in three runs back from a break, Standard Deviation has turned in some strong performances, only just denied over 1900m at Canterbury before a tough run behind some genuine Saturday grade horses over the same route last time out.
In peak order this week and with James McDonald retaining the ride, I don’t think he’ll get a better opportunity to strike in metro company.

| Recent form sound. Last start 4th of 10 in a 5yo+ Bm72 at Canterbury on September 16 over 1900m, 1.4 len behind Doradus with 57.5kg at $4. Before that 2nd of 7 in a Bm72 at Canterbury on August 26 over 1900m, slow going neck behind Fioprospero carrying 56.5kg at $5.50. Thereabouts in his three runs back and no excuses today. | |||
MAN OF WORTH (10) returns to action in a winnable race at Randwick-Kensington.
The Sea The Stars gelding hasn’t been seen at the races since May, but he turned in some typically competitive performances in strong metro company last time in and did win at this point of his preparation.
That added to an already strong fresh record, and with the benefit of a couple of trials under his belt, I’m confident he can hit the ground running in something like this.

TRUE TO FORM (5) is another resuming galloper that I am keen to be with at Randwick-Kensington.
True To Form raced consistently throughout his first campaign for Kris Lees earlier this year, finishing in the placings at all four starts, including an eye-catching victory in BM72 company when resuming.
A couple of recent trial performances add further confidence today and he’s drawn to receive every chance under McDonald.

| Resuming. Finished off last preparation second of 11 at Doomben Cl6 May 16 over 1350m, soft track; 2 len behind Midnight Dynamite carrying 57kg at $11. Previous preparation first-up won by neck Canterbury Bm72 February 20 over 1250m defeating Calga Power carrying 61.5kg at $18. Capable on his day and don’t dismiss with the solid first up record. | |||
SCENIC POINT (6) is second up and open to improvement on Wednesday.
The lightly raced six-year-old has won two of just six starts since debuting, and she returned to action this time with a credible performance to dust off the cobwebs when fifth in Saturday metro company last month.
She’s since been back to the trials and drops in class into this contest.

| Second-up today. Last run did the work up front then tired 5th of 13 in a Mares Bm78 at Randwick on September 5 over 1100m, 1.75 len behind Ernaux with 56kg at $4.40. At only start last preparation ran last of 10 in a Bm70 at Sandown-Lakeside on March 25 over 1200m, slow going 9 len behind Shaime carrying 58kg at $6.50. Capable of testing this weaker field. | |||
