SURFIN’ BIRD (7) is a good chance to lead throughout in the Evergreen Turf Vase, and she comes out of a much harder race.
She ran fourth behind Lazzura at Rosehill, and she wasn’t beaten by much. It was a good resuming run from a mare who has the potential to win a big race during the Melbourne Spring Carnival, and she should run well on Saturday.
The Waterhouse/Bott-trained mare has a good record of 50%, with five wins from 10 starts. She has been a good bet for punters so far, and carrying 57kg won’t worry her, as she’s a tough customer.
The $3.70 odds are worth taking, and she’s our top bet with Evergreen Turf Vase predictions.

This is the time of the year when ON DISPLAY (10) shows her best form, and that was the case when running third at Flemington fresh-up.
She wasn’t too far behind Pondalowie, who flew home over the top of the field, and she looked to have the race parceled up. It was a hard-luck story for On Display fans, but she could bounce back.
The 5YO mare is only a three-win mare, but if there is any runner due for a win, it’s her. She always gives it her all, and it’s another good ride for Mark Zahra, who could have a good day on Saturday.
Her odds have been rock-solid all week, and she is worth including in Evergreen Turf Vase tips at that price.

Getting $10 for a runner like ASTRAL FLAME (11) is a good price, and she could be in for a big spring campaign.
The 5YO mare has four wins and six placings to her name, and although she has yet to win a big race, her claim to fame is finishing second behind Treasurethe Moment at Caulfield in March, which is a great form guide.
If she can reproduce something similar to that run, she should run well here. She might be the forgotten runner in the race, but we’re not leaving her out of our picks at double-figure odds. The value is there, and she could cause an upset with the right run in transit.
