We have Might and Power Stakes tips and predictions for the Group 1 2000m race at Caulfield on Saturday.
Might and Power Stakes odds have Sheza Alibi at short odds, and she is clearly the one to beat.
SHEZA ALIBI (6) is the standout selection and gets the nod as our best Might And Power bet.
The mare was sensational in the Makybe Diva Stakes, producing a powerful finish to beat Autumn Boy by 2.75 lengths over 1600m. That was her first win since returning from a spell, and she looks capable of taking another step forward here.
The obvious question is the 2000m, with this being her first attempt at the distance. However, she races like the extra ground should suit, and the expected lack of speed means this probably won’t become a genuine staying test.
Luke Nolen also has plenty of options from barrier 6. He doesn’t need to rush early and can allow her to find her rhythm before asking for that trademark turn of foot.
The price is short, but she is the class runner in the field, and we’re happy to make her the top pick with Might and Power Stakes predictions.

BIRDMAN (2) is the runner most likely to make Sheza Alibi work for it, so the $4 odds at time of publish are good value.
He was excellent when winning the Underwood Stakes over 1800m, defeating Cosmic Crusader by 1.75 lengths. That is the strongest piece of recent form outside Sheza Alibi’s Makybe Diva victory, and the move to 2000m looks completely suitable.
Barrier 2 is another positive. Ben Melham should be able to settle him close to the speed, and given the lack of pace, Birdman could even take control of the race himself.
If he can dictate at his tempo, he could make this much more interesting than the market suggests.
Sheza Alibi is our pick, but Birdman is the obvious danger and looks a genuine chance of finishing in the top two.

KINGSWOOD (5) is the runner we’re taking a chance on at nice odds, and he could run third.
He has been racing consistently this preparation, winning the Heatherlie Stakes first-up before finishing fourth behind Birdman in the Underwood Stakes. He was beaten 4.5 lengths that day, but he wasn’t disgraced against a quality Group 1 field.
The 2000m should suit, and John Allen can potentially position him right on the speed. That’s important in a race where there doesn’t appear to be much early pressure.
He probably needs to improve again to win, but he’s already shown he can compete at this level, and the $14 quote gives us enough interest.

Punters get value odds with our Might and Power Stakes SRM, which includes our three selected runners.
- To Win – No. 6 Sheza Alibi
- Top 2 – No. 1 Birdman
- Top 3 – No. 4 Kingswood
We have Sheza Alibi to Win, Birdman Top 2, and Kingswood Top 3, which pays $4.75 for our three-runner SRM.
The odds aren’t huge, but this same-race multi has a good chance of cashing. We just need Kingswood to run well for third to boost the odds.
