A time-honoured feature at Morphettville, the Lord Reims Stakes was first held back in 1889 as the West End Draught Stakes.
It was renamed the Lord Reims Stakes in 2010 in honour of triple Adelaide Cup champion, the Kiwi-bred Lord Reims (1987–1989) who also won this event twice in 1988 and 1989. Lord Reims is also famous for winning the 1987 Caulfield Cup.
The better stayers in the Lord Reims Stakes traditionally target a run over the two-miles in the Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) held in mid-March.
