The Oaklands Plate is a popular Black-Type event for two-year-olds contested at Adelaide’s Morphettville Racecourse in mid-July each winter racing carnival.
Run by the South Australian Jockey Club (SAJC) on the same date as Perth’s Listed Belmont Classic (2200m), the event takes place over 1400m at set weights plus penalties.
The juveniles-only showdown offers $107,250 in total prize money and is the feature race on Oaklands Plate Day.
Previously contested in May, the race was first held in 1978 and Grey Bonnet was the inaugural Oaklands Plate winner.
The latest edition of the Oaklands Plate ran on Saturday July 15th, 2023 at Morphettville Racecourse and was won by Tony & Calvin McEvoy’s nicely-bred filly Coco Sun ($5).

Oaklands Plate Field
The Oaklands Plate race field is made up of classy local two-year-olds coming off earlier winter runs in Adelaide.
Any fillies that perform well in the Oaklands Plate field as two-year-olds usually return as three-year-olds the following season to contest Morphetville’s Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m). The 2020 Oaklands Plate winner Instant Celebrity was the latest to continue on and win the Robert Sangster in 2021.

The daughter of Russian Revolution has her eighth start here making her the best tried in the race.
