The Ottawa Stakes is a Group 3 short-distance sprint race run over 1000m at Flemington in March as part of Flemington’s Super Saturday race card in the autumn.
It was previously held on the Thursday after the world-famous Melbourne Cup race on the first Tuesday of November up until 2023. There was no edition held in 2024 and then it became an autumn event for the first time in 2025.
The Ottawa Stakes now runs alongside the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) and the recently upgraded Group 1 The All-Star Mile (1600m).
The event is run at set weights and is open only to two-year-old fillies.
The Ottawa Stakes offers $200,000 in prize money.
The race was inaugurated in 1978 and gained its current Group 3 status in 2013 with Oakleigh Girl won.
It was not held between 1986 and 1990, and the event has been run as a host of different names due to sponsorship.
