Ladbrokes Tip: Look for horses that ran top three in their CF Orr Stakes lead-up run.
The C.F. Orr Stakes is the opening Group 1 race of the calendar year and an early highlight of the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival.
Currently contested at Caulfield Racecourse in mid-February the weight-for-age race is run over 1400m and offers a total of $750,000 in prize money plus prime betting opportunities for the punters.

A race dominated by the favourites in recent years the CF Orr Stakes is traditionally contested by middle-distance hopes that come out of the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley in January.
CF Orr Stakes runners usually back-up at the same track and distance in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m). The race has been won by a host of turf greats and notable recent CF Orr Stakes winners include Hartnell (2018), Black Heart Bart (2017), Dissident (2015), Moment Of Change (2014), All Too Hard (2013), and mighty mare Black Caviar (2012).
The last horse to complete the Australia Stakes – CF Orr Stakes double was Streets Of Avalon (2021) – the first since Black Caviar (2012) – while the popular CF Orr Stakes – Futurity Stakes double was last achieved by the likes of All Too Hard (2013), Moment Of Change (2014) and Black Heart Bart (2017) who improved on a lead-up second in the Australia Stakes. Backing the CF Orr Stakes winner to run top three in the Futurity Stakes is a great autumn racing tip.

CF Orr Stakes Tips
C.F. Orr Stakes tips are based on the recent race history and statistics that reveal the hot streak of favourites in the race.
Along with backing the favourite another CF Orr Stakes betting tip is to look at horses that finished in the money in their lead-up.
Mares also have a top record making them a favourite in CF Orr Stakes tipping with the most recent to win being Suavito (2016) followed by Tofane (2022).
Horses drawn in double digit barriers have a poor recent record in the race, so another good tip for picking the CF Orr Stakes winner is to look for the WFA horses with a good gate.
2024 CF Orr Stakes Tips
Our Ladbrokes’ exclusive CF Orr Stakes 2024 tips will be found below the week of the race so stay tuned for what gallopers to back and sack this Melbourne Festival of Racing.
- To Win: #1 Mr Brightside ($1.85 at time of publish) – BET NOW
No value in Mr Brightside, but the odds-on elect and four-time Group 1 champ for Lindsay Park is impossible to tip against first-up. He was fifth in the race last year but has gone on to prove his superstar status especially at WFA over the past 12 months. Won last year’s All-Star Mile and the Doncaster before a supercharged spring. He is three-from-three at the Orr track and distance including winning the Group 2 PB Lawrence first-up last time in by a big margin. Memsie – Makybe Diva Stakes double followed. Three impressive if not frustrating second placings at his latest trio of runs, including that heart-breaking Cox Plate performance. Fires fresh and is ready to continue his flawless 1400m record here.
