Coolmore Stud Stakes Field

Good lead-up races for youngsters into the Coolmore Stud Stakes race field include Randwick’s Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes, which produced all three of Chris Waller’s winners from 2013-15 including Zoustar (2013) and Brazen Beau (2014) who did the double. Waller won the race again in 2020 with his filly September Run backing up from a Black-Type win at Flemington, while his 2021 winner Home Affairs came off a ninth in the The Everest race in Sydney – the world’s richest turf race now worth $20 million!

Waller celebrated his sixth win in 11 years with Switzerland (2024) becoming the latest horse to complete the Roman Consul Stakes – Coolmore Stud Stakes double

One of the very first lead-up races for potential Coolmore Stud Stakes runners is the Group 3 H.D.F. McNeil Stakes (1200m) run at Caulfield in August and Merchant Navy (2017) was the last horse to do the HDF McNeil Stakes – Coolmore Stud Stakes double.

In Sydney during late August, a host of potential Coolmore Stud Stakes horses often kick off their campaigns in Rosehill’s Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m). Exceedance (2019) was the last horse to do the San Domenico Stakes – Coolmore Stud Stakes interstate spring double.

In 2022 the winning Coolmore Stud Stakes filly In Secret improved on a lead-up second in Sydney’s Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) before her dominant victory down the Flemington straight.

Coolmore Stud Stakes Tips

Coolmore Stud Stakes tips are usually headed by the favourites with the short priced three-year-olds in the markets boasting a solid strike rate over the past decade. A wide barrier hasn’t been a hindrance so including those in double figure gates if the field is that big in your tips can add value.

Sydney trainer Chris Waller has a strong record and his in-form three-year-olds make a good Coolmore Stud Stakes betting tip, as do the best out of lead-up races including the Roman Consul Stakes in Sydney or the Schillaci Stakes in Melbourne. Waller prepared his fifth Coolmore Stud Stakes winner in nine years with Home Affairs in 2021.

2024 Coolmore Stud Stakes Tips

Our Ladbrokes’ insider Coolmore Stud Stakes 2024 tips and Group 1 Melbourne Cup Carnival betting selections on the $2 million feature will be detailed below the week of the race so stay tuned for the three-year-olds to back and sack in this season’s Coolmore Stud Stakes results.

  • To Win: #3 Traffic Warden ($4.40 at time of publish) – BET NOW

Had him on top to win The Everest before he was scratched at the gates and think he can win this against his own age. Traffic Warden in the Godolphin blue looks value here third-up and fit drawn a treat in gate three for Jamie Kah. The James Cummings-trained Street Boss colt won the Run To The Rose at this distance in style fresh before his close Golden Rose second over 1400m. He will relish the drop back to six furlongs and is proven here at Flemington having won the Group 2 VRC Sires’ last campaign by 1.75 lengths wide out. Doesn’t know how to run a bad race and gets all the favours here. Can win.
