ANGEL CAPITAL (3) heads to the 2026 Missile Stakes as the resuming favourite, and he looks perfectly placed to kick off a big spring campaign for the Chris Waller yard.
The now five‑year‑old son of Harry Angel hasn’t won since his sharp fresh victory at The Valley last September, but he’s strengthened, matured, and lines up against a small field he should have covered on class alone.
His autumn form was outstanding — back‑to‑back Group 1 placings in Melbourne followed by a tough midfield run in the All Aged Stakes where he finished less than three lengths off Beiwacht over 1400m.
While Randwick hasn’t been his happiest hunting ground, his four‑from‑five first‑up record is elite, and the drop back to 1200m looks ideal after two eye‑catching lead‑up trials.
J‑Mac reunites with him, he’s one of the big winners in the Missile Stakes barrier draw in gate three, and maps to settle off the speed before launching late.
With the right tempo, which he should get from likely leader Midnight Dynamite, Angel Capital shapes as the strongest of the midfield closers and the horse they’ll all need to hold out for mine.
Verdict: Deserving favourite ready to fire fresh. Class act. Can win.

MIDNIGHT DYNAMITE (4) draws one outside the top elect and should explode out the gates, hit the lead and try to go all-the-way chasing back-to-back Black-Type.
Prepared by Bjorn Baker, this flying Pierata gelding has been a marvel over the winter, and, unlike Angel Capital, he loves the Randwick track boasting an excellent record here (5:3-2-0).
He has won five of his past seven starts going back to November including his strong victory over Whinchat in the Listed Civic Stakes (1400m) here back in late June.
Third in Rosehill’s Winter Stakes after that behind General Salute, he was quick to bounce back with a dominant three-length romp home over Just Folk in the Winter Challenge on a Heavy track over the 1500m.
Definitely deserves a shot in his first Group assignment now, with the only query being the drop back in distance.
Still, fitness is on his side, he’s brimming with confidence and there’s been early money for him in the Missile Stakes betting markets.
Verdict: Last start winner with the fitness edge. Top 3 hope if he doesn’t get swamped late.

The Hellbent five-year-old kicks off his spring here and has won first-up in the past.
A top-tier 2YO back in 2024, he’s been a consistent force ever since including his brilliant second behind Waller’s star filly Autumn Glow at a similar blowout price over the mile here in last October’s Epsom Handicap.
Failed to fire in the $10 million Golden Eagle when 11th to the same rival and is yet to race in 2026 but has been brought on with a host of recent trials.
Not sure which version of this guy will show up on Saturday after nine months away, but with 56kg from gate two he’ll get a chance to make up some late ground and could add value to the exotics.
Verdict: Long time off but he’s a shot for a Top 4 or 5 run if he shows up at his best.
