Ladbrokes Tip: Fillies might back-up from the Edward Manifold into the Thousand Guineas the next weekend
The Edward Manifold Stakes is a Group 2 race for three-year-old fillies contested at Flemington Racecourse on Turnbull Stakes Day in early October. One of the earlier Group 1 race meetings of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, the card is headlined by the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) for Caulfield Cup types.
The Edward Manifold is one of the key support races at the meeting and is one of three Group 2 events along with the Gilgai Stakes (1200m) and Blazer Stakes (1400m). Offering $300,000 in total prize money the mile clash is run at set weights and fillies often back-up the following Saturday in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield Racecourse. The last filly to complete the Edward Manifold / Thousand Guineas double was Amphitrite (2018).
The event also serves as a key lead-up into the Group 1 VRC Oaks (2500m) held on the first Thursday of November. In 2019 the Edward Manifold third placed Miami Bound went on to win the VRC Oaks later that spring.
The latest edition of the Edward Manifold Stakes ran on Saturday October 2, 2021 and was won by the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained favourite Elusive Express.

In 2018 Amphitrite completed the Edward Manifold Stakes / Thousand Guineas double.

Going for a bit of value in this year’s Edward Manifold and tipping 10/1 shot Adele Amour. The daughter of Sebring is drawn a treat midfield and coming off some lovely Melbourne runs in easier company carrying more weight. Won two back at Sandown Hillside at huge odds on Slow going and will appreciate the sting out of the track in an open race.
