The latest edition of the Grand Prix Stakes ran at Eagle Farm on Saturday December 20, 2025 over 1800m and saw the Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou trained son of Snitzel, Matias ($7), go back-to-back with a big run out wide.
2025 Grand Prix Stakes Results
The full Grand Prix Stakes 2025 Results & Finishing Order will be provided below once the race is run and won on Saturday December 20, 2025.
- 1st: No. 3 Matias
- 2nd: No. 6 Agent Zero
- 3rd: No. 1 Tambeloa
Matias ($7) turned in a booming performance to claim victory in the 2025 Grand Prix Stakes results at Eagle Farm on Saturday, storming home out wide and putting a real gap on his rivals late. After being allowed to settle early, the Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou trained Snitzel gelding unleashed a powerful wide run, surging past the field to score a runaway victory 1.29 lengths clear of Agent Zero.
It was a huge step forward for the progressive three-year-old, who arrived off a Hawkesbury maiden win and had endured some tough luck earlier in the prep. Jockey Michael Rodd admitted he wasn’t sure what to expect but was left stunned by how strongly Matias attacked the line, calling the win “really impressive”.
The performance has now sparked talk of a Sydney autumn carnival campaign, with Ryan considering giving the gelding a short break before targeting bigger races next year.

To Win: No. 2 John Dory
JOHN DORY (3) goes around as the clear favourite in this year’s Grand Prix Stakes, and it’s hard to argue with the market — he’s doing everything right early in his career and looks ready to take the next step.
Based at Chris Waller’s Gold Coast operation, the Ace High gelding is bred to run a trip and shapes as a horse who’ll have no trouble rolling through the 1800m. He’s only had three starts but hasn’t finished outside the quinella, which tells you he’s got the talent and the attitude to justify a crack at Group 3 level.
He broke through two runs back at Canterbury over 1550m, sitting handy and putting Matias away with authority — and that form stacked up immediately with the runner‑up winning next start. Then he headed north to Doomben for the City To Surf and was enormous under 60kg, only just missing in a tight finish after giving weight to the field.
Ryan Maloney, who’s riding in terrific form, takes over from Tommy Berry, and he’s drawn to get every possible favour. Back to 57kg under set weights and likely to land on speed again, he’s fit, he’s tough, and he’s ticking all the boxes.
