Looking for fillies proven over 2000 – 2400m, the best performers out of The Roses, runners that finished top four in the lead-up and runners with winning form in Brisbane are all key Queensland Oaks tips.
The Roses produced 12 of the Queensland Oaks winners from 2005 – 2020, and only three winners in that time ran worse than fourth in the lead-up to the Group 1 when Riva San (2008) improved on a ninth in The Roses to win, the New Zealand-trained Provocative came off a sixth back home for her victory in 2016 and Winning Ways (2019) improved off her Roses eighth to score an upset in the Oaks.

The Queensland Oaks a Group 1 race held during the annual Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival taking place on a Saturday in late May or early June at Eagle Farm Racecourse Racecourse (Doomben from 2017-2019). Open only to three-year-old fillies the event is run at set weights, each runner carrying 56.5kg, over a staying distance of 2200m (previously over 2400m up until 2017).
The Queensland Oaks offers a total of $700,000 in prize money.
The Group 2 The Roses (2000m) held a fortnight earlier at Doomben Racecourse offers a ballot exemption into the Queensland Oaks field and is the key lead-up to the Group 1 – Scarlett Lady (2011) the last filly to do the double before Youngstar (2018).
The key support acts on the Queensland Oaks Day program are the Group 2 Moreton Cup and $500,000 Magic Millions National Classic (formerly the Group 3 Queensland Sapphire Stakes).

Queensland Oaks Betting
Futures Queensland Oaks betting opens weeks in advance of the race offering pre-field prices on the likely fillies heading towards the classic. The Queensland Oaks odds on the final field firm once the last round of acceptances is released, and many punters prefer to wait until this time to place their bets.
Fillies coming off a dominant run in The Roses at Doomben often lead the Queensland Oaks markets and the last to complete the double was Youngstar (2018). In 2014 Tinto ran second in The Roses before winning the Queensland Oaks, while Arabian Gold won that year’s The Roses before her Oaks second next-up.
In 2022 The Roses ran over 2100m just one week before the Oaks after being rescheduled due to heavy rainfall, and the winner Barb Raider was brave on the quick back-up running second to Gypsy Goddess in the Queensland Oaks results that winter.
You Wahng (5th in 2025) was the last Queensland Oaks winner to come via a lead-up run in The Roses.
Favourites have a strong recent record in the Queensland Oaks with eight from 2006 – 2025 saluting for the punters as the top fancy in betting including Egg Tart ($3.10 in 2017) and Youngstar ($3.70 in 2018) – both trained by Chris Waller; the Ed Cummings-trained Duais ($2.80 in 2021); and most recently the David Vandyke-trained Queensland local Gypsy Goddess ($4.40 in 2022).
In 2023 the Queensland Oaks winner Amokura won her Black-Type debut saluting at $8 to defeat $101 roughie Reo in a lucrative quinella.
Recent double-figure Queensland Oaks winners to score an upset include Miss Keepsake ($31 in 2010), Winning Ways ($21 in 2019), Socks Nation ($101 in 2024) and You Wahng ($19 in 2025).
Queensland Oaks Field
The Queensland Oaks race field features a line-up of the winter’s best three-year-old staying fillies, many stepping out over the distance for the first time that campaign.
There is a host of earlier races offering a Queensland Oaks ballot exemption to the winner including the previous year’s VRC Oaks in Melbourne, the New Zealand Oaks, Auckland Racing Club Championship Stakes, Sydney’s ATC Oaks and South Australia’s Australasian Oaks. In Brisbane, The Roses produces the bulk of the fillies in the Queensland Oaks field.
The largest Queensland Oaks field in recent years was 20 starters in 2002 when Mon Mekki won from barrier 4 as a $51 roughie. The smallest recent Queensland Oaks field featured only seven runners in 1991 when Triscay was successful.
Earlier, a nice Queensland Oaks lead-up held in Sydney is Randwick’s Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) run at Royal Randwick in April. Duais (2021) was the last filly to complete the Adrian Knox Stakes – Queensland Oaks double with an Australian Oaks second in between.
Going even further back to the December prior during the Brisbane Summer Racing Carnival, potential Queensland Oaks fillies may run against the boys in the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes (2100m), a race the 2022 Queensland Oaks winner Gypsy Goddess won in the summer of 2021.
The Queensland Oaks nominations close on a Tuesday in early May, about a month before the race followed by first acceptances three weeks’ later. The final field of Queensland Oaks acceptances is released on the Tuesday before the race runs on the Saturday.
