Mannerism Stakes 2022

Saturday February 26, 2022

Ladbrokes Tip: The Mannerism Stakes serves as a potential lead-up into Sydney’s Group 1 Coolmore Classic in the autumn

The Mannerism Stakes is a Group 3 race for mares run and won at Caulfield Racecourse in late February on Blue Diamond Stakes Day.

The set weights plus penalties clash takes place over 1400m and offers $200,000 in prize money.

Blue Diamond Stakes Day features a trio of Group 1 races headlined by the Blue Diamond Stakes for two-year-olds.

A key support act on the card, the Mannerism Stakes was first run in 1988 and has held Group 3 status since 1993.

It is named in honour of the 1991 Australasian Oaks winner and 1992 Caulfield Cup champion mare Mannerism.

Some of the better mares out of the event may head up to Sydney for a shot at the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) run at Rosehill two weeks later.

The latest edition of the Mannerism Stakes took place on Saturday February 26, 2022 as part of the bumper Blue Diamond Stakes Day program and was won by potential $5 million The All-Star Mile hopeful Flying Mascot ($1.85F).

The bulk of the runners in the event are locally-trained in Victoria and some may head onto bigger and better races both in Melbourne and Sydney over the season.

Plenty of mares contest multiple editions of the event and Silent Sedition (2017-18) is the last back-to-back Mannerism Stakes winner.

Mannerism Stakes Tips

The Mannerism Stakes makes a nice autumn kick-off for Group 3 level mares and has been dominated by first-up runners so looking for proven fresh performers at the start of their campaigns is a top Mannerism Stakes tip.

Backing mares drawn in single-digit barriers is also a good Mannerism Stakes betting tip as just one winner since 2011 has jumped from wider than gate eight.

Four-year-old mares have dominated the race and the only Mannerism Stakes winner older than five since 2000 was Jamaican Rain (2019).
