While yet to strike in two runs back from a break, Gin Twist hasn’t been disgraced behind some good horses.
Having stripped fitter for both hit outs, she steps out this week a fit horse and is importantly proven down the Flemington straight, having recorded an eye-catching victory in Listed company here earlier this year.
She has been kept up to the mark with a nice trial since her latest effort and represents value in the market.

| Third-up today and won third-up previously. Resumes off a 37 day letup. Resuming led to the turn then faded 9th of 13 in the G3 Cap D’antibes Stakes at this track on September 12 over 1100m, 4 len behind Satono Glow carrying 57.5kg at $9. Second run from a spell 7th of 10 in a 3yo Qlty Hcp at Caulfield on September 27 over 1100m, 3.5 len behind Threads carrying 58kg at $16. Needs to improve. | |||
He hasn’t recorded a victory since taking out last year’s Ladbrokes Cranbourne Cup, but Sabaj has turned in plenty of fine performances since and has raced well around some of the country’s best horses.
Getting back to Flemington looks the key – four starts here have seen him record a win and a second placing, while his two latest runs here saw him finish fourth in both the All-Star Mile and the Australian Cup earlier this year.
He’s fit, drawn perfectly and ready to win.

| Last start 7th of 15 in the G1 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield on October 10 over 1600m, 3 len behind Lady Shenandoah carrying 54kg at $8.50. The start before that got back early 12th of 16 in the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield on September 19 over 1400m, 5.5 len behind Angel Capital with 53kg at $21. We’re set for a class renewal of the Melbourne Cup and with a case to be made for many of them, I’m ultimately siding with the classy international raider, Sons And Lovers.
We are yet to see him competitively on an Australian track, but Sons And Lovers has been a strong and consistent performer in top staying contests in Ireland, the UK, France and the Middle East, finding form around some of the best distance horses in the world.
He’s reportedly flourished under the warm Australian conditions and with leading Irish hoop Dylan Browne McMonagle in Melbourne to ride, I’m confident he’ll get his chance.

| Comes here off a 52-day let-up. Last start 2nd of 10 in the G3 Kilternan Stakes at Leopardstown on September 12 over 2414m, 2.25 len behind Arabian Crown with 63.5kg at $15. The race before that won by a head in the G2 Prix Maurice De Nieuil at Longchamp on July 14 over 2800m defeating Parachutiste carrying 59kg at $2.60. Top weight but brings classy international form and should go very well. | |||
Barracks returned to action with a fine performance to break his maiden over 1200m at Rosehill, before he was only just denied again in the Group 3 Blue Sapphire Stakes last time out.
Stepping out in peak order on Melbourne Cup Day, Ethan Brown should be able to find cover in the run before calling on the horse’s turn of speed in the final furlong.

| Third-up today. Resuming won by 0.8 len in a 3yo Mdn at Rosehill on September 30 over 1200m defeating Affari with 58kg at $2.70. Second-up raced on the pace when 2nd of 11 in the G3 Blue Sapphire Stakes at Caulfield on October 17 over 1200m, nose behind Marffiano carrying 57kg at $8. Very game last time, should go well again. | |||
Buccleuch has returned to action in typically sharp for this season, winning three of four starts since resuming.
Charged with carrying topweight over 1400m at Caulfield last time in, the Peltzer gelding again made light work of his rivals, extending his overall record to 11:6-1-0.
He has been expertly placed this campaign and has drawn to receive the run of the race this week under regular rider, Billy Egan.

| Last start ran on from midfield and won by 0.8 len in a Bm84 at Caulfield on October 14 over 1440m defeating Fiorenot with 61kg at $3.90.
