Pago Pago Stakes Betting

Pago Pago Stakes odds favour two-year-olds with proven experience over the 1200m and those with winning Sydney lead-up form over the autumn.

Upsets are more common in the Pago Pago Stakes than in the fillies’ equivalent run on the same day, the Magic Night Stakes, with the latest winner to salute at double figures being Tarquin ($12 in 2015).

The 2018 Pago Pago Stakes betting favourite got the job done however with Written By, earlier winner of the Blue Diamond Stakes, odds-on.

There was a notable upset in 2024 with Dublin Down winning at Pago Pago Stakes odds of $20.

Cosmic Force ($3.50 in 2019) and Skyhook ($2.90 in 2025) are the latest Pago Pago Stakes favourites to salute for the punters.

Pago Pago Stakes Field

Many Pago Pago Stakes runners are also gearing up for autumn assignments over further distance including the Group 1 ATC Inglis’ Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick during The Championships in April.

In 2015 Rageese ran second in both the Pago Pago Stakes and the Inglis Sires’ Produce when he tied for second in the latter with that year’s Pago Pago third placegetter Odyssey Moon.

Horses in the Pago Pago Stakes field may have earlier contested Rosehill’s Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) and Prague (2021) was the last to do the double.

In 2023 Shinzo won the Pago Pago Stakes third-up breaking his maiden status after running third in the Canonbury and second in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes ahead of his success in that year’s Golden Slipper.

Pago Pago Stakes Tips

Pago Pago Stakes tips include looking for juveniles with good lead-up runs over similar distance races in Sydney and for those with previous black-type form on their record.

Laying the favourite is another solid Pago Pago Stakes betting tip to consider with plenty of upset results occurring in the race in recent history.

Traditional lead-up races into the Pago Pago Stakes to consider when doing your tips include the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) both held in Sydney in the lead-up.

In 2023 Shinzo improved on a lead-up second in the Skyline to win the Pago Pago for trainer Chris Waller.

Skyhook (2nd in 2025) was the last Skyline Stakes graduate to continue on and win the Pago Pago.

In 2024 the Pago Pago Stakes winner Dublin Down came via a lead-up Melbourne run the month before in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) improving on a 12th finish there.

2025 Pago Pago Stakes Tips

Our Ladbrokes’ insider Pago Pago Stakes 2025 betting tips will be detailed below the week of the race with the two-year-olds to back and sack in the final Golden Slipper Stakes lead-up.

  • To Win: #1 West Of Swindon ($3 at time of publish) – BET NOW

Plenty of untapped hopes in the Pago Pago but the favourite, West Of Swindon, brings in the strongest form lines and looks in a lovely position to break his maiden status at his third start. The Team Hawkes trained son of Super Seth was a half-length runner-up in the Golden Gift on debut last year before resuming with another second in the Group 2 Silver Slipper. He was a far margin off the winner but was impressive up in grade at the Rosehill track. Trialled well since to keep him ticking over, gets the run of the race from gate four with Tyler Schiller sticking on. Right course and can salute.
