Guest House ($11) proved too strong for his rivals in Sydney with the progressive Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr-trained Home Affairs colt getting the gap late to fly home in the 2026 Golden Slipper results at Rosehill on Saturday. It was the first Slipper for Price, with jockey Zac Lloyd giving the Victorian raider a peach of a ride to frank the form out of Melbourne. Having run third in the Blue Diamond last start, Guest House was able to turn the tables on the Blue Diamond winning filly Streisand who finished second in the Slipper with the Black Opal winner out of Canberra, Music Time, third.

Golden Slipper Tips

Each autumn Golden Slipper Stakes tips favour horses coming off a first or second in their lead-up run. From 2003 – 2016, eight of the fourteen Golden Slipper Stakes winners came off a win.

The last start winners were back on top of the Golden Slipper results again in 2018 when the filly Estijaab did the Reisling Stakes – Golden Slipper double, 2019 with the Godolphin-raced filly Kiamichi backed up from her Magic Night Stakes win the Saturday prior to take out the feature and in 2020 with Farnan completing the Todman Stakes – Golden Slipper double for seven-time winning trainer Waterhouse.

Fireburn (1st in the Sweet Embrace Stakes in 2022) and Shinzo (1st in Pago Pago Stakes in 2023) are the latest last start winners to back-up and win the Golden Slipper.

The best lead-up races are the Todman Stakes and Reisling Stakes, and the winners of these Group 2 events are usually a hot Golden Slipper Stakes tip.

Class traditionally prevails over anything else in the Golden Slipper Stakes tips and results with the season’s best two-year-olds able to overcome a wide barrier draw to win.

Two Golden Slipper Stakes winners have won from the outside barrier 16 draw in recent years with Phelan Ready (2009) and Vancouver (16). Barrier 14 meanwhile produced back-to-back Golden Slipper winning fillies in Estijaab (2018) and Kiamichi (2019), before Farnan won from 12 of 16 in 2020.

Barrier one however has produced more Golden Slipper winners in the past 30 plus years than any other gate with nine victories since 1983 – most recently Fireburn (1 of 16 in 2022) and Shinzo (1 of 15 in 2023) – so looking for the rails-drawn runner is a nice tip.

The Golden Slipper Stakes is the richest race for two-year-olds in not only Australia but the world and highlights the early Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival action at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse each March.

Offering a lucrative $5 million in total prize money the 1200m sprint for juveniles is run at set weights. Colts and geldings in the Golden Slipper Stakes field carry 56.5kg while the fillies taking on the boys in the classic carry 54.5kg.

There is a bumper five Group 1 races held on Golden Slipper Stakes Day with the meeting’s namesake race supported by the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m), Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m), Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m), and Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m).

Seven earlier lead-up races offer a Golden Slipper Stakes ballot exemption to the winner: Silver Slipper Stakes, Sweet Embrace Stakes, Skyline Stakes, Reisling Stakes, Todman Stakes, Magic Night Stakes, and Pago Pago Stakes.

Of those the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) at Randwick a fortnight before for colts and geldings has been one of the best guides to the Golden Slipper Stakes with recent winners of the double being Farnan (2020), Vancouver (2015), and Pierro (2012).

The Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) has also produced a number of recent Golden Slipper winning fillies with Estijaab (2018) the last to do the double.

Most recently Fireburn completed the Sweet Embrace Stakes – Golden Slipper double in 2022.

Fireburn also went on to win that year’s Group 1 Inglis Sires’ (1400m) and finish second in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) that autumn.

Chris Waller’s maiden Golden Slipper winner Shinzo (2023) was the last horse to do the Pago Pago Stakes – Golden Slipper Stakes double.

The recently boosted $1 million Golden Gift (1100m) for two-year-olds held the November prior at Rosehill is now also a nice lead-up into the Golden Slipper, which the 2015 runner-up Yankee Rose won on way to the multi-million dollar event.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse posted her record extending eighth Golden Slipper win in 2024 with the filly Lady Of Camelot saluting on the back of a lead-up Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes second in Melbourne.

Golden Slipper Betting

Futures Golden Slipper Stakes betting markets are available months before the race with all-in prices offered for the emerging two-year-old stars of the season. With early nominations and Golden Slipper Stakes declarations out the bookmakers determine pre-post odds that change as lead-up races into the $5 million feature are run and won over the autumn.

All 17 Golden Slipper Stakes winners from 2009 – 2025 ran first or second in their lead-up run and favourites have a gun record in the race.

In 2026, Guest House became the first Golden Slipper winner since 2008 to come via a run worse than second when improving on a lead-up 3rd in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes in Melbourne to win the event in his first Sydney assignment. That year’s Blue Diamond winning filly Streisand meanwhile ran second in the Slipper further franking the form from down south that autumn.

No horse has finished worse than fourth in their final lead-up before taking out the Golden Slipper Stakes in over 30 years. From 2006 – 2026 five Golden Slipper Stakes favourites saluted for the punters including the Gai Waterhouse-trained trio of Farnan (2020), Vancouver (2015), and Overreach (2013).

Two-year-olds in the Golden Slipper Stakes odds trained by Waterhouse are always high up the markets as she is the leading Golden Slipper trainer in history boasting eight wins from 2001 – 2026 including her latest two with Farnan (2020) and Lady Of Camelot (2024) in partnership with Adrian Bott.

There was a notable upset in 2023 with Chris Waller winning his first with Shinzo jumping at Golden Slipper odds of $16.

Another double-figure Golden Slipper winner got the job done in 2026 with Guest House jumping at $11 for trainers Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr.

Golden Slipper Field

The Golden Slipper Stakes race field is made up of the season’s best two-year-old sprinters and is dominated by the top performers of the autumn.

A capacity of 16 runners line-up in the Golden Slipper field and since 1983 the race has run under capacity just seven times and in that time, there has never been under 13 starters.

Two-year-olds usually come into the race via the traditional Golden Slipper Stakes lead-up in races like the Reisling Stakes for fillies and the Todman Stakes for the boys two weeks before on Randwick Guineas Day.

These two races produced 12 of the 17 Golden Slipper Stakes winners from 2009 – 2026.

Very early Golden Slipper nominations of yearlings close the July of the previous year before a series of acceptance stages whittle down the line-up to the final field that is released on the Tuesday before the race attracting a fee of $30,000 for connections.

Earlier, the previous December’s Group 3 B.J. McLachlan Stakes (1200m) in Brisbane followed by late January’s Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m) for fillies and the Group Canonbury Stakes (1100m) for colts and geldings serve as starting points for Golden Slipper hopefuls.

Two fillies have completed the Widden Stakes – Golden Slipper Stakes double with Overreach (2013) and Mossfun (2014).

Four horses have won the Canonbury Stakes – Golden Slipper double with Fine and Dandy (1958), Sebring (2007), Vancouver (2015), and Shinzo (2023).

Earlier, two-year-olds may kick-off their Golden Slipper bid in Melbourne’s Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield in early February and in 2010 Crystal Lily completed the double.

In mid-March, Canberra’s Group 3 Black Opal Stakes (1200m) also serves as a traditional Golden Slipper lead-up but to date Catbird (1999) is the sole runner to complete the double. In 2026, the Black Opal winner Music Time ran a huge third in the Golden Slipper trifecta.

2026 Golden Slipper Field

The official Golden Slipper 2026 final field and barrier draw will be announced on Tuesday March 17, 2026, and published in full below.

The 2026 Golden Slipper Stakes final field features a capacity line-up two-year-olds led in betting by Annabel & Rob Archibald’s Group 2 Reisling Stakes winning filly Chayan.

The Golden Slipper Stakes form guide displays all of the race’s crucial information including the full field, barriers, jockeys, trainers and the lead-up form of the horses. Looking for two-year-olds that ran first or second in Group company in their final Golden Slipper lead-up is a top form guide tip, especially those coming out of the Todman Stakes and Reisling Stakes a fortnight earlier.

Also keep an eye out for in-form Gai Waterhouse-trained Golden Slipper Stakes runners in the form guide as she has won the race eight times since 2001.

Fillies are also worth doing the Golden Slipper Stakes form on as nine have beaten home the boys since 2010 with Crystal Lily (2010), Overreach (2013), Mossfun (2014), She Will Reign (2017), Estijaab (2018), Kiamichi (2019), Fireburn (2022), Lady Of Camelot (2024), and Marhoona (2025).

Only one youngster has won the Golden Slipper Stakes first-up in over three decades when Sebring (2008) taking out the classic off a six-week break between runs.

The 2025 Golden Slipper form stacked up superbly, with runner‑up Wodeton returning in spring to also finish second in the Golden Rose. Third‑placed filly Tempted franked the race even further, taking out the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes at her next start before launching into a huge spring prep that saw her win the Run to the Rose, finish third in the Golden Rose, and chase home Hong Kong star Ka Ying Rising when runner‑up in the $20 million The Everest.
