Ladbrokes Tip: Sandown Guineas winners often come off a Carbine Club Stakes run on Derby Day
The Sandown Guineas is a Group 2 feature race held at Sandown’s Ladbrokes Park in mid-November at the tail end of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
The meeting runs on the second Saturday of the month after the Melbourne Cup Carnival finishes up the week before with Mackinnon Stakes Day at Flemington.
Sandown Guineas Day is headlined by two Group 2 races including the Zipping Classic (2400m) for stayers. Also on the card are the Group 3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m), Group 3 Sandown Stakes (1500m), Group 3 Eclipse Stakes (1800m), Group 3 Summoned Stakes (1500m) and for the two milers the Listed Sandown Cup (3200m) is another feature.
Run over a mile (1600m), the race offers $250,000 in total prize money to the three-year-olds in the field that face off under set weights and is usually the final spring run of the campaign for its contestants.
The latest edition of the Sandown Guineas ran on Saturday November 14, 2020 and was won by Allibor.
