The opening Group 1 race meeting in Victoria for the annual Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, Memsie Stakes Day is host to not only the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) but an additional three other Group races with the running of the: Cockram Stakes, HDF McNeil Stakes and The Heath 1100 Stakes.

Contested over 1100m at set weights plus penalties, The Heath 1100 Stakes is open to horses aged four-years-old and above and offers $200,000 in prize money.

The race now also serves as a potential lead-up into Sydney’s $20 million The Everest (1200m), the world’s richest turf race held at Royal Randwick in October. The inaugural and dual The Everest champion Redzel (2017-18) is the most famous The Heath 1100 Stakes winner in history having won the 2016 edition.

If not The Everest race The Heath 1100 Stakes graduates may stay in Melbourne and contest The Valley’s Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) during the Cox Plate Carnival. Samaready (2013) was the last horse to do The Heath 1100 Stakes – Moir Stakes double.

The latest edition of The Heath 1100 Stakes took place on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023 as a lead-up to Sydney’s $20 million The Everest and was won in style by Henry Dwyer’s Group 1 placed mare Asfoora ($2.50F).
