The Tobin Bronze Stakes – formerly known as the Eucalse Stakes – is a Group 2 event run at Morphettville Racecourse on Robert Sangster Stakes Day on a Saturday in late April or early May during the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival and is named in honour of the race’s 1991 winner Euclase.

The meeting is headlined by the fillies and mares facing off in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) and the three-year-old fillies running in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m).

The set weights Tobin Bronze Stakes is run over 1200m and is open only to three-year-olds and a the key support act on the card along with the Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) and the Group 3 DC McKay Stakes (1100m).

Prize money for the Tobin Bronze Stakes is currently set at $250,000.

The best three-year-olds out of the Tobin Bronze Stakes often back-up at Morphettville a fortnight later in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m). 

Royal Merchant (2023) was the last runner to complete the Tobin Bronze Stakes – The Goodwood double.

The latest edition of the Tobin Bronze Stakes took place on Saturday April 27, 2024 at Morphettville Racecourse in Adelaide and saw Mitchell Freedman’s filly Skybird ($7) charge home by two lengths.

No doubt the favourite has claims coming off some stellar interstate form, but at the price Sir Sway looks a forgotten chance. He is 14/1 at time of publish, but is the genuine local hope with a strong record at this track (3:1-0-2). Questions of his class, but he has been working his way through the grades well and handling all assignments. Trained out of Naracoorte, the Sir Prancealot gelding was last seen winning the Listed Redelva Stakes (1100m) here on April 13.
