In 2024 the Typhoon Tracy Stakes was renamed the Don Casboult Classic in honour of former MVRC Chairman Don Casboult.
The Don Casboult Classic (formerly Typhoon Tracy Stakes) is a Group 3 race for three-year-old fillies formerly run and won at Moonee Valley Racecourse each Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival.
It was previously a Moonee Valley Night Racing event before being moved to the All-Star Mile Day card in 2023.
In 2024 the race was renamed the Don Casboult Classic and moved to the Saturday after the All-Star Mile held on William Reid Stakes Day in late March.
First contested in 2011 it is one of the newer Black-Type events held at The Valley and was the feature race at the twilight meeting that took place on the eve of Caulfield’s Blue Diamond Stakes Day before taking place a month later in 2023.
Offering $200,000 in prize money, the Don Casboult Classic (Typhoon Tracy Stakes) is held at set weights plus penalties over 1200m.
It was previously named in honour of the late, great mare Typhoon Tracy who was a multiple Group 1 winning champion and 2009-10 Australian Racehorse of the Year before sadly passing during the birth of her first foal in 2012.
The latest edition of the Typhoon Tracy Stakes ran on Saturday March 23, 2024 at Moonee Valley as the Don Casboult Classic William Reid Stakes Day and was won by progressive Written Tycoon filly Gumdrops ($7.50).

- To Win: #10 Celestial Storm ($19 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Going for an upset in the Don Casboult (Typhoon Tracy Stakes) with Celestial Storm at close to $20 at time of publish looking well overs in an open race. This nicely-bred Zoustar filly posted her third win at start number 11 last time out here at The Valley putting over two lengths on her rivals in a BM64 over 955m. This is an obvious class rise now, but she is proven at the distance, has winning form at the track, comes down in weight and has speed to surprise at a price.
